The standard edition is more than enough for small shops and standalone developers. There is enough OSS available that has a better price / satisfaction rate than spending more $ on the pro edition..
I never thought that I would say that about OSS, but $$$ are just harder to come by.

And for those interested in the Standard Edition:
1) Chris says that (at least initally) they won't be able to sell it here (huge-ass bummer if you ask me). I wanted it before my Christmas vacation started, so I had to find it elsewhere.
2) I found it on Amazon.com for $262, and they are promising 1-day shipping (for an additional $17). I ordered it this morning, so we'll see...

Update: According to the tracking info from Amazon, I'll have it today when I get home from work. Good price (considering), and delivery as promised.

Good stuff
When you get it and have used it for a little while, would it be possible for you to inform us what a "streamlined user experience" is?
I will be waiting until the new year before I go ahead and order my copy.

We just heard today that we'll be able to offer VS 2005! Woot!
Not sure on pricing or dates, but we should be getting a good deal and we're expecting we'll be able to start selling in a couple of weeks or so.
cheers,

couple weeks... I'm just surprise to see how long it is to sell VS2005. Even place like Amazon have insane 3-5 week shipping (after Christmas ?¿?).
I think they have a serious production/printing or distribution problem... usually we can buy a product the day it's released... not a few month after.
If it's not too long, I will wait to buy it from codeproject to express my satisfaction of this web site.

I asked the CP sales rep earlier, and she said that you guys wouldn't be able to offer the upgrade package from Pro 2k3 to Pro 2k5. Is that still the case?

Too bad you don't sell MSDN as well because I would buy VS and MSDN from you. I ordered the Professional Version with MSDN from a nationally-known software outlet over three weeks ago, but Microsoft can't seem to ship this software to them so they can ship it to me. Guess MS is too busy shipping XBox's to bother with the developers like us, who put them where they are.

Never mind - I found the product matrix.
Chris, will the VS2005 package include an MSDN Pro subscription? Thanks,

Will you be selling the Standard version with a dundas bundle?

I've just checked and initially it looks like we won't have access to Standard, only Professional. But yes, we'll still be doing the Dundas and Ultimate Toolbox bundles.

Well, that's too bad. I was gonna buy it from CP.
I wonder why MS would place that limitation on you...
EDIT:
I found it for $262 on Amazon, and they claim I'll have it tomorrow. Wish it coulda been CP...

That's the one I currently plan on buying... once I have saved the pennies for it... and I can find somebody who actually sells it.
The Office tools does look very interesting and I hope to have a play with it soon.
However at the moment, I'm stuck with Express as my evaulation version. I think I'm going to need another gig of ram judging by current performance. I know my machine is 4 year old but sometimes using VS 2005 feels like I'm wading through treacle.

I figured by the time they actually start selling VS2005 pro I will have saved enough money to afford it.

That would be "wading through molasses" for those of us in the States, though I suspect that not many know what molasses is any more. Let's say, "wading through maple syrup" instead.

Hello,
Maybe Chris should announce a 'race to the poll' competition for dedicated CPians..

I question the utility of such a poll. Let's have a poll to see if it's justified.
