Do you mean, we cant access any windows servers outside the web servers ?

Not sure what you mean. Agree the Asp.Net code is running from the Web Server. With the Directory class, we can able to access the folders in any windows servers ( if we have the credentials to access ). Am expecting the same way to access the folders under Unix box.
