You could import the database to the SQL Server and then connect your site directly to the server.

Any reason you are not using the asp:menu control? I would have though the asp:menu control would pick up the child pages no problem if you have them in SiteMap file. Easy to link to this too.

I suspect you want to use the update command in gridview but it's not working because you use a dropdown list? If this is correct then I have the same issue but I found this helpful although I didn't quite undertand it...
DropDownList as ItemTemplate within a GridView with an ObjectDataSource updating a database - you'll find it in code project - just search.

I have since abandoned this and found a solution with another method.

Thanks for looking. That was actually an error in my pasting the code into my question and putting all the " back in. The bracket is in the code.
