I´m in the middle of redesigning a complete system using winforms.
All database CRUD operations will go through a web api that I´m writing in Asp.Net Core.
In Asp.Net there is modelvalidation that is automatic, you just design your datamodels and add attributes such as [Required] or [StringLength] on the properties and a [ErrorMessage] attribute. Then you just check with Model.IsValid and respond with message of error or success to clients.
So I´m gonna let user type whatever he/she wants and respond with a message from web api in a messagebox.
If you are using entity framework directly in winforms I think there is validation built in there.
In a dreamworld there would only be databinding to models and controls would highlight error and success.
What I´m trying to say is, maybe use EF or a backend Web API for validation?

As you say, it´s not consistent between controls.
With some hacking it´s possible to implement the validation asp.net uses.
Datamodels with annotations. Havent tried it but I like the sound of it.
I personally use databindings on textboxes, lists and so on. It is one way so you cannot change underlying datamodel value and show it to user without some kind of refresh or update. I design forms for users to create data, I never allow creating straight into a datagridview.

It sounds weird to me.
Asp.net MVC is already using network communications through http protocol.
But you want to make the server open another socket and use another protocol to communicate with clients that are not browsers or using websockets in browser?
Why not use ajax and mvc views with post and get?

It´s important that you understand the difference between value and reference type.
when you are passing an int (value type) as a parameter you are passing its value and you cannot change the variable you use when calling the SwapPlayer method.
If you change "private void SwapPlayer(int playerNumber)"
into "private void SwapPlayer(ref int playerNumber)"
you will pass in a reference to the variable and you can change it within the method.
Hope I didnt complicate things for you.

0) I disagree, split is fine for basic stuff.
When it isn´t fine I use regular expressions.
See namespace "System.Text.RegularExpressions".
1) while(!sr.EndOfStream) is preventing a null reference exception?

I think the instantiated objects are still linked to the original gameobject. I also think that the clones are not inheriting parent. I am just guessing and thinking loud here.

From my experiences, when it is random behaviour it usually has something to do with multithreading.

My application is only 1to1.
I am connection to a plc through udp with half duplex communication/protocol.
I have a gui thread and another thread for networking. The networking thread makes async beginreceive and beginsendto calls.
That is sort of the backend side.
I have a frontend side which lets clients connect to my application and read to/from plc, but that is through tcp.
My application is not like yours unfortunately.

I am also currently developing an application that uses UDP.
90% of my bugs have been cause by threads doing things too quickly or slow.
They have had the same behaviour as you described. Been working for 5-10 minutes and suddenly stopped working or getting the wrong buffer and so on.
Maybe my current experiences can help you narrow it down?
Per Söderlund

UDP is connectionless. You only need to create connect and bind a socket once. After that, the client dont know what happens on the other side. Server can go offline for hours and come back, client would still see buffers arriving without needing to reconnect or recreate socket.
It sounds to me like your thread might close the socket too soon and maybe recreate after buffer has arrived?
If you leave your socket open at all times there "should" not be any buffers missing.

Splitting logic into 2 EXE will make your head spin.
It´s hard work (debugging) and useless if you do it to reduce CPU.
Make sure your thread is not blocking by using Thread.Sleep as i showed, that will be enough to decrease CPU usage.
Also take a look at multithreading if you need to do parallell processing.
Multiple threads are way better then multiple applications (up to a certain point).

I´m sorry but i think you are over your head with this.
you need to do some more basic programming before doing this.
If serializing struct array to byte array is not enough or is not what you want.
Then you need to take a look at reflection and make your own formatter/parser.
But this is not a tutorial or a discussion forum. It´s only for quick questions.
Do array[1].itemcode.ToString("X"); if you want to see its hex value.
Or do array[1].itemcode = 0x07b; if you want to write in hex.
Anyway, you wont get more help from me here. Move to a forum or take some courses.

If its a small settings file it might be easier to serialize a class into an xml file.
Then just change value in class and overwrite xml file with a new one.
deserialize when you want to get class from xml file.
With this you dont have to spend time writing code for logic since the XmlSerializer takes care of everything.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.xml.serialization.xmlserializer(v=vs.110).aspx
I´m writing this as a comment because it´s not helping your code and its not solving your problem. I´m just suggesting an easier path that has been tested before.

If someone connects to your routers ip on that port your router will send it further to your computer.
Only the server side needs to open port, first try turning off the fire wall on the serverside computer.
When it works you can turn it on again and sort it out.Usually it asks if you want to open the firewall when you start your server software.

This is not clear, you can browse folders with openfiledialog.
Can you give more information on this?

Sure, we can help you.But you have to post your code.
Solving your problem like this is impossible, we don't know what game or what the timer is trying to do.

There is no quick answer to this, you need to read up on the subject.

It's not a solution to his problem, it's a solution to find the solution.Based on the info we got in the question I think this is the best answer you can get.

what does your project look like and where in the code do you want to upload/download files?
I'm guessing you have a server application and client application.

I think you have to make an effort on your own first and then describe your problem better.

If you use visual studio you can add datasource in the data menu, there you can Test your connection, Visual studio will generate a valid connection string. It´s good to test cause if you are doing this over LAN you have to configure Server side software for it.
I can´t see any obvious error in your connection string.
Maybe you can try and change
"AttachDbFilename="+Sourcelocationtxt.Text+"\Database1.mdf;"
into
"Initial Catalog="Database1.mdf;"
But that is just a guess.

Would be nice if you voted on answers and opened a new question when you have a new question, this looks more like a forum thread.

I have the same problem with a WPF program.
When it auto starts on Windows startup it wont load the config file (.xml)
but if i close it and start it up again it reads the xmlfile just fine.

I think this starts the webpage in your default browser.
So if you set Opera or whatever you use as default browser it will start on it.

It would be easier to change in the future instead of changing the command text every time.

The 2d jagged array i have is in relation to each other, so if i sort the middle row i want the other rows
to move accordingly.
This is nice though. Good Job.
