Thanks. I have a good grouding in xhtml and css, not so much in javascript. I will start there and work my way through. Again thanks for reply, as you rightly stated I wanted personal experience.

Cheers, I have no problem with constructive criticism but not so much with sarcasm!
Well that's a step in the right direction I will go through all the properties and see what I can find. Thanks for the reply.

Thank you for the ever so kind reply. I decided instead of posting 100's of lines of code from multiple files it would be easier to see if someone had came across the issue before and had a quick/simple fix. But next time I will ensure that I post a long enough answer with a ton of code that people won't read......

I think your right about the web.config, the web host I am using have a default web.config in the root of the application and when I remove it for my own the website simply fails to run. To be honest I am pretty new to asp.net and I am not sure if the web application is set up in the IIS at the app root.

Thank you for your answer Daniele, this wasn't quite what I was looking for, possibly my poorly written question!
In a ListBox a row is selected when a user clicks it, from here you can obviously do whatever you like with the item using something like listbox1.selecteditem.ToString(). I am looking to implement the identical functionality in a listview so basically listview.selecteditem.ToString().
Thanks again.

any ideas?? line 58 is the <gridview> line

That sounds like an idea, I had a similar idea but I though it would be nice if you could write the 4 numbers in a text in the correct order. Then comp pics it up enters them into db. Job Done. Alos with a text, like you suggest, if it is not sent instantly it wold be sent as soon as signal is gained

ObservableCollection<fooddata> FoodCollection = new ObservableCollection<fooddata>();
public ObservableCollection<fooddata> _FoodCollection
{get { return FoodCollection;}}
FoodCollection.Add(new FoodData
{
FoodName = foodNameTxt.Text,
Calories = Convert.ToInt16(caloriesNum.Value),
Quantity = Convert.ToInt16(quantityNum.Value),
FatContent = fatNum.Value,
ProteinContent = proteinNum.Value,
CarbsContent = carbsNum.Value});
public class FoodData
{
public string FoodName {get; set}
public int Calories {get; set;}
public int Quantity {get;set;}
public double FatContent {get;set;}
public double ProteinContent {get;set;}
public double CarbsContent {get;set;}
}
The XAML simply binds the columns of the viewlist to each of methods above within the FoodData section so:
<gridviewcolumn displaymemberbinding="{Binding FoodName}">

I think the problem is that I am not looking through the listview for the right things, I am telling it to look through the list of items and for every item insert certain params into the db. But how do you know which params are actually being taken from the item? My item has 7 params as you can see but I don't really understand how it is taking the value from each column of my listview and placeing it in the db. This is deffinetly from a lack of experience and im a bit stuck! Thanks again for you rhelp

Thanks, the problem seems to be that my boss has employed me to make it easier(its not a software company its construction) so of course my boss has no real knowledge of software or computers in general! He literally hired meon the basis of I thought I could make it simplier than how they do it now.
Then a month down the line and IT managers get involved (I presumed they would have been consulted first) and it goes a bit belly up!
Yes I have been paid for the month so its not all downhill, just seemed bit of a waste of time and money as I am sure you can appreciate!

Sorry. What I mean to say is. Is it possible to remove the default windows styling from a page such as the back and forward buttons the surrounding windows border and the min/max buttons in the corner? I know you can do it with a window but can't seem to edit the properties on a page. I'm looking to set a custom background to change the shape of the window.

Basically, Im making an application where I want the user to be able to navigate around the application much like you would a web page I guess. At the minute I have been using multiple grid panels and collapsing them, then bringing them back when needed. This is quite obviously not the way to do it so I did abit of digging around online and a few suggestions came up either use this Iswitchable or use something called Magellan.
ISwitchable seems to be using a class that controls all the other pages and allows you to switch between them using buttons to enable multiple pages within the same window. I have only looked at this tonight and it is getting late but it seems the ideal solution if I can build my app based on it.
Here is a link to the site:

Yes the idea is a nav bar with a details section, On the first click they will be sent to enter there details which once submited is sent to "Overview" page. The overview page will have the ability to edit which will then direct them back to the original details section where they can alter anything they need to. If that makes sense?

cheers for the quick replies guys, I was looking into making my own with custome design etc. I am using a tab control on wpf however I can't seem to find the alignment property at all. One of the website I found suggested that but liek I've said can't seem to find it in a tabcontrol on wpf any suggestion there?

I am a university student in my second year (just finished) and c# is not part of our syllabus, so I am trying to learn it during my summer. For some being told to use a datatable would be enough for them to find the answer themselves but like I say am very new to this language and have no real guide other than a couple of books I have picked up. I have never used a database in code other than with JSP so to me everything to do with linking a database to a GUI is completly new to me. I work mainly by example I find it much easier to see a piece of code that is similar to what I need and work backwords to its understanding than sitting reading books which 99% aren't really in 'English' Mark is deffinetly correct in what he has said but As I've said im new and it's nice to see an example rather than 20 pages of text I struggle to stay awake for when reading it!
Thanks again guys for your input

hey sorry for slow reply, I am using sql compact 3.5 at the moment but I am currently downloading the full sql server 2008. I am still stuck with this problem I have been through all the suggestion i.e. changing the protocols to enabled and still getting the same error. Definitely starting to frustrate me now!
The Northwind database exists as far as I know on the local machine server and also within the project itself. I am just checking out the suggested website now.

thanks I appreciate your reply. As you can tell im new to c# and to be honest using visual studio is not helping, there seems to be so many (Wrong) ways to do very similar things. What kind of structure would you suggest for such an application?
