I'm finding even more issues trying this...
If I want to split then the only msdn I can find: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e3awe53k.aspx
Says use a string for the delimeter to allow for conversion to string to conversion between splits, which is already fiddily, and then to convert to double. And to top it off, I can't find how I get the second string in the split. As far as I can tell it removes the space without actually just taking each. I'm really confused. I dont care how messy my code is, please can you give an answer in either method. It's killing me!

What I dont understand though is how you get the second part of the string. msnd shows how to use delimeters:
String^ str1 = str->Split(' ');
but how would i get the second half of this line? I read msdn every time before posting, but it's not the easiest read, and my cli book has nothing on double parse from file. it's rather specific.

Does parse.String allow for 2 numbers per line? I can't see how to implement.

This has me stumped..

I'm concerned this is a bit out of my league. I'm using a background worker. Does that not use two cores? Else, if it's not overly hard to do could you send me in the direction of some tutorial? I assume msdn has something somewhere? Many thanks !

thank you for your ideas. I have done as you suggested; the cpu usage is 0 when the operation isnt active - after it switches display - as expected as it is literally doing nothing but displaying buttons. (obviously when theyre clicked it increases slightly before back to zero) but when the background operation begins the cpu usage rapidly increases to roughly around 40-45% on the .exe.
It is clearly this calculation which is causing the long time. I will readdress my code and look for obvious problems but as far as I can tell there isn't a huge amount of data switching. The calculating is generally just inside modules with minimal transfer only when needed, and like I said, it works fine standalone. Maybe it has something to do with the progress report. Thanks again, if you have any more possibilities to mind let me know, but I realise without me showing code it's just guess work.

Ah I think I mis-led. The user is filling in a form and this gives the summary, but depending which form the number of lines is different. I want the summary box to be as small as possible to put a large picture and whatnot below, but the user input is highly limited. They're mostly combo boxes so it will never overload with size. I just want to minimize the amount it takes

also I changed my code to that above, so the array size is dependent on the vector size

Well I have no idea what WPF is and lists are a weak point so not really ^_^ I'm sure there's a way of using the ready made event but i duno how to do it.
(System::Object^ sender, System::EventArgs^ e)
sender ->
options: Equals, Finalise, GetHashCode, GetType, MemberwiseClone, ReferenceEquals, ToString.
I duno how these could be utilised for my purpose though. I just want to change the visibility of that label

Thanks for both your answers. My form automatically adjusts to the screen resolution of a computer. What is the simplest method to obtain the window size, excluding the task bar? Many thanks

i didnt think it was passing it through as :
interior_ptr<const char=""> ptrToNext = PtrToStringChars( stringA );
doesnt work:
error C3861: 'PtrToStringChars': identifier not found

I've already got my textboxes working in _TextChanged event...
If I use the OnKeyPressed will there be conflict or does it automatically do this event first?
lostandconfused1234

Yeah I'm writing it all inside the event args of the windows forms app for the textboxes. I just want to stop users being able to input an invalid input but it keeps messing up every method I try. I dont know a lot about the inner workings of the windows forms to override functions

@SA yes please :) I didn't consider the fact it WILL need a compiler to run, which I hold my hands up and say yes, that was stupid not to consider! It's fascinating however and a link would be appreciated

Yes, well I have it working using a while loop so:
while(n < NumColumns-1) *inserts the data*,
I'm just trying to optimise my code into the shortest number of lines possible. Somewhat interesting as to why I can't do:
while (file != eof) {
MyVector.insert ( MyVector[i], Myvector[i][1], MyVector[i].end() );
i++
}
