I am not sure if that links answers my question.. my question is that how can i start transferring the bytes to the server the moment i select file.. but save it on database only on button click.. I am trying to utilize the time during which user will be selecting more files.

So basically, i can specify as many button as i want in ItemTemplate , EditItemTemplate, footer and Header and i will just need to specify their command name and handle them in RowCommand event right? And if i set the command name to "Edit", "Update","Cancel" or "Delete" of any button any template or footer or header of a GridView then "RowEditing", "RowUpdating and RowUpdated" , "RowCancelingEdit" events will be fired respectively. Am i on the right track?

Ok so RowCommand gets executed in all the 1 to 4 cases but what about OnRowEditing ? When does that get executed(assuming i am not using command field.) I read somewhere on msdn that it gets executed when Edit button is clicked , what is meant by Edit Button? If i am not using CommandField, have a GridView with few Template fields with one one ofthe column with buttons. ANdi if click that button wont OnRowEditing be fired along with RowCommand?

I have read OnRowEditing event occurs when a row's Edit button is clicked, but before the GridView control enters edit mode. What is meant by "Edit Button"? isnt it supposed to be just any button with any name as long as its on ItemTemplate?

First, of all I never said that i find Jquery hard or boring. And i am aware that Jquery is javascript library and knowing a little bit of javascript is a must to use it. I started with javascript basics and then started with Jquery, i fell in love with Jquery. It is pretty easy and fun. However, i found many tutorials , training courses online solely on 'Ajax with Javascript' and some tutorials on 'Ajax with Jquery'. So this lead to my question.

I did not actually miss that Jquery can not be used without knowing javascript at all. Currently i am going through http://learn.jquery.com/javascript-101/ and this would hardly take an hour or so. I just wanted to know if i should learn javascript beyond that link before touching jQuery? Or should i spend 15 days on javascript learn from other sources and then set my focus on Jquery. If i sound naive it is only because i really am naive right now.

Anything apart from that? Is using Update Panel for Like/unlike etc a good approach? Also when i comment the entire GridView (which carries comments under a post) reloads which also gives a flicker to the GridView.

I just checked the links suggested by you and thy do seem helpful. There is however one tiny little thing i wanted to ask... It seems that the articles are using XML as datasource and i have no clue about XML. I am using MS SQL Server. Should i still go through that article?

You are right google search would return millions of results and that is exactly why i am asking it here since i am confused where to start. People here are more experienced than i am and so i though it would be a good idea to ask someone who has already been where i am and therefore can guide me. I never used asp.net for learning anything, whenever i had some problem i googled it of used stackoverflow or code project. Now that it has been suggested by two of you i will check it out. It's just that reading a lot of text (which may or may not includes code) can be irritating when its on the monitor. And that is why i was wondering if i should buy a book.

The Problem with your method is that it is taking last productid from the first column like this
var lastProductId = $("#GridViewUserScraps tr:last").children("td:first").html();
and in my case i do not showing the id in forst or any column for that matter.

THanks, its a good advice of course, but as i mentioned in earlier comments.... I have recently got a job as a web developer i am working on real life application but, the thing is the people who have hired me have absolutely no technical knowledge. And there is no senior. So you see my problem? I am just worried if it is possible to learn without having a senior by the side. And since i am working now and have application to develop, i am a little bit in rush for now(i am aware that nobody becomes an expert overnight).

I guess you are right. It is the more time efficient way perhaps. But still if you are asked to suggest some way to learn it what would you suggest? any particular websites,tutorials, videos, book, forum? Should i spend time reading stuff or should i just start developing and search for solutions everytime i face a problem?
