i noticed, this seems to happen on my pages where the grid views are filled up based on some values selected in drop down lists. Elsewhere, your solution is perfect. Are we supposed to do write some special code in this kind of a case ?

I tried that Code_Hunter143. The grid view did not return any data only. We need to specify the data source too i guess. Thanks .. and any other suggestions ?

no bro ... in fact, the grid view disappears altogether. DataBind() will definitely be required in the block ... but after we give it a data source i believe ..
but thanks nonetheless .. :)
any other ideas ?

i could not get my code to work ... so have taken the help of the code from your link. But i shall try my best after this submission to get to the root of this silly error and update all.
Thanks for the link in any case :)

no, this doesn't seem to work either. I still get the same error. In fact i tried even changing the data key name value ... there's some silly error .. which we seem to be missing! :/
any other solutions ?

That's the conclusion I arrived at - that it's gonna be a close match between the two models.
but I've never hosted a program like this online ... how do you recommend I go about it ? I think hosting both the program and DB at a central place makes sense.
As for your questions:
1. Yes, I need real - time data (or at least, the DB should be updated every 5 minutes) and at all locations.
2. It's more data modification intensive ... but almost equally data-retrieval based as well.
3. We have pretty decent bandwidth - about 2.10 Mbps download and 0.85 Mbps upload speed. The connectivity is pretty good.
4. In cases when the link is down, the company can proceed normally too. This software helps in synchronizing and integrating services between different locations where the company is actually.
Yes, I went through the DB sharding thing Sir - and seems like something I ought to use here as the s/w is mainly for data retrieval and updation.
Geographic partitioning would not do us much good Sir.
How would you suggest I proceed with online hosting of the same?
P.S. Can this be deployed on an existing website ?

Having a single instance of my application means that the application and Database shall have to be hosted/cloud based- which will cost more.
Apart from that, i see no other reason why it's not possible.
Meanwhile, I thought that having different databases means that every time there is a change in the DB, it shall update the other databases too - although, this will require wastage of space and precious developing time overall .. something i just got!

You made a believer outta me Sir! :)
p.s. Sir, I had one doubt ... the database .. after reading a little, I have come to understand that we require an integrated database - that all versions of the prog. should have their individual DB which gets updated in REAL TIME when any change is made elsewhere as well. Am i right in assuming that .. or should I look to a single database which is shared by all versions of the application ? In either of the case, could you please also provide a link to a guide for the same?
thanks for helping out!
