how to connect window remote desktop connection?

i am newbie regarding this topic.
generally i upload asp.net pages with the help of filezila.now i have to connect with remote desktop connection to install window services. but don't know that server is window server operarting system or other operating system.
1.according to me it must be window server because asp.net works with iis (not sure).
2.i have taken server space to host asp.net pages.should i have take permission to install window service.
3.how to see the desktop of server?
give some information these things works.
