You're still arguing ecconomics, Mr Mackay. This is a matter of principle. No one should ever sell his daughter into prostitution, and no one should ever deface an article with spurious advertisments right in the text.
And don't expect me to "support" an organization that would immediately return to the same tactics under similar circumstances. "Marry this whore," you say, "and she won't have to walk the streets any more." No thanks - because if I lose my job, I'll have to walk the streets myself to find her!
IntelliTXT ads, I am arguing, are morally wrong. You cannot serve God and mammon.

This argument and the prostitution/drugs analogy is getting old.

What is so wrong about IntelliTxt? You still haven't given solid reason why it chaps you so much. You have the option, the power, the ability, to turn it off

Your analogising skills suck
System.IO.Path.IsPathRooted() does not behave as I would expect

Yeah, his comparing IntelliTxt to drugs and prostitution was weak

Please enlighten us (or at least me) by what you mean with "the IntelliTXT advertising". I see a banner on the top, one on the side, and Adsense on the bottom right of articles. That's all.

I am trying to figure it out what is so wrong about it and how it negatively affects articles on this site

If certain options are selected in your profile - and in the author's - "keywords" in the article will appear in a different color with a double underscore. The word "cpu", for example, might appear this way. When you mouse over the word, a balloon ad for, say, Intel CPUs will appear on top of the article, and will stay on the screen for several seconds even after you move the mouse.

Can you provide some kind of example, so I can see how bad this IntelliTxt is? Is there a particular article that has too much of it?
Also, I've noticed that in my profile, I have IntelliTxt turned off

Hmmm... A CP whorehouse... Like Rent-A-Coder, but without the pretense. We could even call it "Rent-A-CodeWhore"!
I would prefer that to IntelliTXT... (though, i keep IntelliTXT turned off, so it really doesn't bother me).
C'mon, Chris - whaddaya say?

It is also a matter of principle that bandwidth costs money.
You can go to the CP Store, and buy "supporter status", or any other product.
I trust the CP administration that it would drop part of the advertisement, if other sources bring enough money to sustain the site (and some money for Nish so he can get Smitha a nice anniversary gift, and a new Snowboard for Chris).
Maybe I am to trusting, but then, I hate cycles of distrust.
"But it brings revenue" is not only for drug dealers and whores, but also for billions of people to get up and dressed early in the morning.

So, all you who love this site and respect its members, buy support so this IntelliTXT travesty can end!

Sad. I always tell people to do what they love and love what they do and trust God to provide. And it has worked for everyone I know who has attempted it. If you're working at a job you don't like, quit. Then ask yourself, "If I had a million dollars, what would I do?" and take a first step in that direction. If the cause is worthy and your heart is true, the necessary funds will be provided by He who says, "The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills." There is no need for anyone to be a whore.

I did. But I keep IntelliTXT on too, because CP is too valuable a resource to lose. You have the option to turn off IntelliTXT, if you don't like it then do so and then shut up. It is not often that you have a choice, but here at CP you do.
You are obviously just trolling and I don't know why I've even bothered to reply...

I wish someone - anyone - here could see that I'm not talking about IntelliTXT per se, but IntelliTXT as a bad idea - together with the fact that a bad idea plus a box to turn it off is not just a bad idea, but a worse one (due to the additional baggage). I'm talking about how bad ideas get accepted, and spread, and are then taken for granted - resulting in lower standards for all of us. I'm talking about design issues and what we, as developers, should do about them.

I was not aware that this site had intellitxt. But now that I know, and now that I know it is optional, I went into my profile settings and turned it on. It is the least I can do to support this site.
