How about having a Number of Views that a particular query/reply had? This way, forums can have a feature like 'Most Active Queries'.
Related: Number of child threads that a query has.
But by the nature of forums DHTML, only one when you open a thread, it has to send a AJAX call to the server.

That's done in the articles, but really isn't possible in the forums, al least not without generating alot of traffic, because of the viewing format. In "Messages" view, you get to view up to 50 messages at a time and you get the full text of every one of those messages. It's just a simple matter of showing and hiding DIV or SPAN tags to show or hide the messages. Clicking on one doesn't generate a round trip to the server, so there's nothing going back telling the server which one you clicked on.

I just was thinking about many of the questions in the various forums that don't get answered because they are to complex for a quick answer or the answer may not be known and would require some research. I had the idea that maybe the "CP MVP's" could designate such questions to be moved to a read only forum and they are left as standing questions. Then people who may not have the time to park in a programming message board can browse those questions and opt to do the additional research to answer them. They may even decide to turn the answers into articles (but that's just on off-shoot).
My idea is to designate those who choose to put the time into a working and functional answer get a CP designation of Solution Contributor or some equivalent title. They get a different CP Icon, it's noted in their profile and a counter keeps track of how many solutions they have provided. Once a month the CP MVP's vote on the best solution contributed and that person wins something (small or big, whatever). I think most people would do it for the title/icon/counter. Perhaps even the icon indicates how many solutions they have contributed.
Since the forum is read only solutions have to be submitted (in a way similar to articles but perhaps a little easier maybe just an email) and then if the solution is accepted it gets posted in as a solution and the first functional solution gets the designation but additional solutions would also be appended for completeness.
My motivation for suggesting this would be:
- It allows people who don't have time to participate heavily in the forums to still get recognition for the knowledge and contributions.
- It might promote the creation of some quality articles.
- It gets some of those "too complex" or "too long to answer" questions a chance to really be addressed.
- It would provide a place for developers to go to search out more complex topics/solutions/implementations.
- It is one more way to up the quality of content here. I think people would enjoy a section like that for many reasons.
- I think a lot of people would enjoy the ability to earn a designation without having to devote a 500 replies a month to a particular forum.

The overall idea is great with user perspective. But what about the man power required for doing all the tasks specified ? I think this will put more load on the already loaded team. What do you think about this ?

If you read through what I'm suggesting the individual forum MVP's take the load. The only thing a CP staff member would do is move the message and append answers. I'm completely convinced it won't happen but that's not the reason I suggested it. I know that Chris gets a lot of ideas and just kind of stores them. He may decide down the road that this idea ties in well with something else he's cooking. I'm just happy to be able to try and give him stuff to fuel his own creativity. If he did apply the idea great but even if he doesn't there a lot of value in expressing ideas as they may contribute to something else he's already got in progress.

Not technically but in practice yes. People ask for votes meaning they hope to get 5's because at some point they'll earn MVP status. If you ask for someone to "rate your answer" on the other hand you are asking for an honest answer for how you did.

Suggestion: provide a "Pending Article" status, that allows the article to be reviewed by peers without it being officially published.
The article is submitted through the submission wizard, and you can get it through a specific URL which can be sent to others for review. It is not included in the category list, front page, search, newsletter etc., it is not votable, and maybe allows feedback only through direct mail.
Article gets ublished through clicking "Publish Now" or something similar.

I don't think this needs to be a CP feature. People can always use their blog or their personal website for the beta draft of the article. And once they are satisfied that it's good enough for CP, they can publish it here (and elsewhere).

I assume that t's "not hard to do" (but probably that "don't list anywere" part might make it mpore trouble than it's worth).
I still think it would work smoother. It might make "having your article checked" a normal step in publishing articles. And I guess the crowd would call for "noobs can't fully-publish immediately" which sounds good to me (but I don't know if CP wants it).
Besides, I do edit my articles already with the CP template, publishing on my own site would feel awkward.

Articles are deleted if they are deemed unsuitable for publishing, either because of plagarism, poor content, or it being unsuitable for CodeProject. New articles will be commented on and voted fairly quickly and we usually leave time for the community to comment and the author to make updates or changes based on feedback before an article is removed.
Whenever an article is removed an email is sent explaining the reasons.

Nope. Probably just load or sleepy servers.
Normally in this case the entire site would be a little slow. Strange that it's only the voting. It could be a single server is playing up and you happen to be stuck on it.
