We have a new system that I've not managed (read: fell off my todoo list) to get in place

One thing I do not like about Code Project is the syntax highlighting in the PRE sections. In general it looks fine, but there are much better implementations out there. For example, Google[^] has one that looks really nice and has a button to "copy to clipboard".
Any chance of getting this intalled for use on Code Project?
Take care,
Tom

We have a better one[^] which will be rolled out as part of the rewrite.
The current one broke a while ago and it's been painful for us as well.

How do you say they are not edited. Unedited items come under /useritems/ virtual directory. Also a couple of randomly chosen articls show good number of votes earned too.

Hi
my point is just to highlight the problem.
yes there are, but my suggestion is to just
put them under DirectShow rather then DirectX
category, This way it will be easy for the
members and other to find them.
and get help.
Hoping you have understand the point.

Maybe this has been suggested before, but it would be nice to have faint vertical lines on a message board, especially when posts get more than two or three deep. That way you could tell which message a particular post is in response to.

I've thought about it a lot but always been scared by what it would do to the size of the download payload. Maybe something client side would work...

hi
I sent my First article on Sun 9/22/2007 6:56 AM (Indian time) but didn't received any confirmation for the mail reaching to 'submit@codeproject.com'.
Wouldn't it be better to just sent an automatic confirmation from 'submit@codeproject.com' so that it is easy to be patient while the article parse.
Thanks and Regards

Maybe you should wait until Monday before you get nervous

Would this help? I try and ensure that our editors get the occasional weekend off so a confirmation email would only serve to say "you sent us an email".
Please be patient. Your email will be given the attention it deserves first thing Monday morning.

What is this "weekend" of which you speak?

Maybe Chris is refering to a couple of hours somewhere between an Hawaian friday night
and an Australian monday morning?

- make Visual display line numbers: Tools/Options/TextEditor/...
- show exceptions with ToString() to see all information
- before you ask a question here, search CodeProject, then Google

That effectively compresses the weekend to just a week-evening. Very cruel?

I just observed a couple of most-visited pages in CodeProject which have open mailto: URLs. Open mailto URLs are normally a grand feast for spammers so that they can run thier spam robots unleashed and fill up their databases.
Two pages have been observed carrying mailto: URLs:
1) The recently introduced 'Jobs @ CodeProject' page with the URL (http://www.codeproject.com/info/jobs/[^]). I could find Marcela's email marcela (at) codeproject.com spelt multiple times in the mailto: URL patterns.
Workaround or Suggestion:
I have already specified it as marcela (at) codeproject.com or we can have a JavaScript function to build the mailto: URL from array component.
2) Suggest a Survey page (http://www.codeproject.com/script/common/mailform.asp?option=Poll[^]). The mailto: URL which is mentioned here is webmaster (at) codeproject.com

We at CodeProject are already on every single spam list there is. Hiding our email address is a pointless exercise. Besides, we already have excellent spam filters.
Thanks for your concern though.

If we can transition them at least in the BETA website and the next version, we can hope that Spammer's crawl should fade those email addresses giving some relief from Spam.
Isn't it?

Is this a form of PageRank? If so - I'm surprised that Google have missed this trick?

Do you go through every web site you visit and critique every tiny corner of them?
Is that why the Google home page is so ... sparse?

I observed the following bug in Modify Profile page with the URL (http://www.codeproject.com/script/profile/modify.asp?ct=[^])
The textbox for 'Name or Alias ' does not seem to have a MAXLENGTH attribute or the MAXLENGTH attribute does not match with that of allowed database value for the User Profile Name. The effect is that in an enthusiasm if you create a fancy long name, the next page would show it truncated. The effects are more bad when the name has fancy HTMLization embedded.

I've noticed this for the past few weeks and wondered if it was just me. So I'm reporting the 'bug' to find out if it's just me or if it really isn't working...
Whenever I vote posts now I no longer see the "You voted X on this post" after I vote. I'm always able to see the voting numbers. It doesn't actually let me vote again, but it leaves me confused sometimes wondering if I already voted on the post or trying to remember what I voted...
Did you guys remove that functionality?
