Hi Hans,
Hans Dietrich wrote: But did you preview the article?
Actually No - I uploaded a newer zip file, so it did not occur to me that I would need to preview.

Actually I thought they are moving it from unedited to edited section, but that it is also not the case..

Good Morning! I see we have invoked the shuffling of the forum list order again eh?
ForumList.Sort( OrderType.Shuffle);
Oh and missing once again is the Design forum. Could be more but that's what jumps out at me.
Last modified: after originally posted -- missing forums as well

... the last time the forum list got trashed I pointed out that this would've been something that should've been covered in the design documentation to make the fix (with unchanged layout) straitfoward.
You know, every time I tried to win a bar-bet about being able to count to 1000 using my fingers I always got punched out when I reached 4....

Hi Chris,
I too want a fixed order of forums in the table. I tend to know by heart where the
important ones are (important to me that is), but every other month a lot of them
move columns. Please stop this from happening. Here are two suggestions:
1.
Order them explicitly by some objective criterium, e.g. alphabetically or by decreasing
message count (and downwards first); that way they will seldom move, and when they move
it will be by just one (mostly vertical) position. Message count has the disadvantage
that some pairs may interchange rather frequently, it has the advantage new forums always
start at the bottom.
2.
give us the possibility to create our own table (user settings!) and show that instead of yours.
I would list only half of the forums, and the order would NEVER change unless I want it to.
I guess you will prefer 1 over 2 for load and effort reasons.

|

I do like those suggestions and will see if we can do it in a way that doesn't bring the server to its knees.

Seems to me calculating the table once every minute or so (to keep the message count somewhat
up-to-date), and using it over and over across all relevant forums, should be sufficient;
I see no real need to recreate the table for every page request (not implying that this is what
you do now, I just don't know).
Of course I would like to see some consistency in the numbers shown by a sequence of page loads;
getting served by different servers should not result in decreasing message counts for a
particular forum, unless messages really got removed that is.
|
|
|
|
|
The message count is always an up to date count. Members (and moderators) sometimes do remove posts.

I was under the impression that one could not attain gold status until they had posted the requisite number of articles. Is this not the case?

You're thinking of Platinum. Gold can be achieved by posting messages.

The small footnote that would appear at the bottom of the forum in Classic CP does not appear now. One line I could recall from it is 'Bonus levels are not applicable to Gold Members'. The other content would be a statistical table on the number of points and the level etc.
Or does it appear somewhere and am I missing it?
