How about a link to the post? I went through the last 30 pages in this forum and didn't see it...

Wrong link Chris. That's the link to my original post on this topic, not the post John was referring to.

Thanks! They are, indeed, similar requests. Hopefuly Chris and company will get some time in the very near future to give this some much needed thought and implement a good solution.

I don't know if you have yet considered this.
It would be very helpful to have an RSS feed for the Job Board.

Chris,
Thank you for fixing the problem I reported earlier. Now I can see my Chinese name displayed correctly at the page top next to "My Settings", at least it is displayed correctly the first time I open CodeProject.com in the browser.
Yes, it won't display correctly when I click any link to go to a different page. For example, if I click "Lounge", my name will change from "Xiangyang Liu 刘向阳" to "Xiangyang Liu ???". If I go back to home page again, my name will still be displayed wrong. Unless I close the browser and start a new one, then my name will be correct the first time CodeProject.com is opened.
I wouldn't bother you for tiny things like this, however, this bug is too funny. I named it the "second time and up" bug.
Hope you find it funny, too.

Further detail: This looks like a session related problem. If I wait for a while (like half hour) and click a link on the site, my name will be displayed correctly. My guess is, by waiting 30 minutes, the session expired, so the system has to retrieve the name string from the profile database table. The same is true when the site is opened in the browser for the first time.
So the cause of the problem is (drum please): In the session database table or stored procedure, one of the field/parameter is varchar instead of nvarchar ?

This was exactly my thought but on checking it turns out everything is as it should be.
Hmmm...

Now I have to resort to Super Psychic Debugging, is there any sql statement that passed parameters like the following:
exec SaveSessionData , ... , '数据'
instead of
exec SaveSessionData , ... , N'数据' ?
|
|
|
|
|
Good thinking, except we use C# and have no need of this antiquated 'N' syntax :P

Really? The 'N' syntax is for SQL Server, it does not have anything to do with C#. Maybe with SQL Server 2005 it is not necessary any more.
P.S. Ok, enough with Psychic Debugging, I hereby demand this bug be fixed in the traditional boring way (step into the code line by line). I am dying to know what is the real cause!

|

I was confusing N with T . Everything is parameterised so no need of a 'N '

This just occurred to me... Bookmarking forum posts would be (potentially) a lot more useful if i could attach a short note or comment to the bookmark in cases where the existing subject line wasn't specific enough to help me remember why it is bookmarked. I suppose i could just reply to each post with a new, more descriptive subject line and bookmark that, but the extra level of indirection (not to mention extra effort involved) would get annoying.
This would be even more useful for publicly-recommended bookmarks...
Oh, and while i'm at it... how's the AJAXification of this stuff going? Just wanted to bookmark it, didn't really want to reload the forum...

Excellent idea.
Which bookmark link isn't ajaxified?

I added Chinese characters for my name. It displays correctly on a few pages but on most pages it is shown as "???", like in this message, the Chinese character in the title comes out ok, but not in the message body (??????????).
