I just read the Lounge post about using "Thread View". I changed my options to "thread view" but still kept "date filter" set to last visit. I logged out, then came back later, and still in "thread View" and "last visit". The list of forums has Lounge, Suggestions, C++, and others highlighted indicating new entries, but if I select the one of the highlighted forums, it says "no entries found - change date filter". If I change the display to Normal, then the new entries show up, but not the first entry in the thread to see what was being discussed. This is very similar to what I see if I select "view thread" from normal. I know Thread View works when the first entry of the thread is new because that is what happened when I first selected Thread View - I saw all of the threads that were new, and could select a thread and view the first entry, and then select to see all the replies to the thread.
What I want is the ability to see only those threads that have new entries since my last visit, but be able to see all of the thread. What I would really like is the PHP view as displayed in the TrueCrypt forum. When you select a thread from the forum display, the entire thread is selected, and the page of entries containing the new entry is displayed, and you are on the newest entry. In addition, when you go back to the forum display, the thread you last visited is highlighted so you can select the next topic. Some of those threads are long with many cross references, and when you finally get back to the forum, you have forgotten where you started.

I'm going to work on the ThreadView next week. It's long overdue for improvement.

Chris,
It would be nice if "Thread View" and "View Thread" worked the same way, except that "View Thread" only viewed that one thread, and that "Thread View" selected all threads with new posts since last {visit | day |...}.
Right now my solution is to be in Normal, Last Visit, and bookmark the post without any first post (if I really want to see what was originally said - most of the time I still remember), then go to my bookmarks and select forum messages. and select the post again. This pops me up in Normal, All, and my bookmarked post highlighted, but you have to search down a bit to find the highlighted post, then backup to the start of the thread (possibly on a prior page). Then back out and delete the bookmark, then back out to revert to Normal, Last Visit. Even then you loose where you were last looking in the forum threads.
Dave.
PS. Would it help if I said "Plz ,Urgent"? (the first time I used a smiley - just to let you know I wasn't serious).

Firefox is incredibly annoying when it comes to Clipboard support. To have Firefox be able to access the clipboard you need to grant UniversalXPConnect privileges which is done by adding lines to the user's preferences then, I dunno, rebuilding the kernal or something.
I have the code in place but I can't ask everyone to udpate their user prefs so it's been removed.

Is a howto for this available somewhere. I'd like to be able to do this...

If you set your permissions the feature should then be available to you.

The email sent when a post is added to an article's forum is very limited as to the number of lines, and frequently is cut off, especially if the poster includes a code snippet, which are often very useful. (Yes, I know I could go to the forum and read it, but often I am not using my own PC, and have to log on).
Can this be configurable? If not, can it be set to something reasonable, like 100 or 200 lines?

I can certainly up the number of characters (I'll double it for now). It's done like this because members were getting massive emails and complaining.

Could you make message size a user configurable option?

Would it be possible to have a Copy to Clipboard button at the top of each pre block?

Hans, that's freaky.
I put one in last night. Uploading today.

Should the editor's name that appears at the bottom of an article page be an email link, rather than a link to the editor's Who's Who page?

I don't mean a hard link - I mean a link to the form that you get when you click on the Email button in a post.

Ah, so a 'Send the editor an email' link? Right. Will add as a TODO

Right, I think this will help beginners who don't understand the editing process.

Hi Chris,
I was just searching for a tool (SP GEN) on CP. I found it quite tedious in a way that i have to move back to the original page ( tab) to read about the next article. Won't it be nice to have a portion for "People who read this also read".
