Those would certainly be big worries, plus add in the possibility of ne'er-do-wells writing malicious code and, well,
Going Open Source, I think, would be a massive undertaking - there are so many issues that need to be fully understood before contemplating a switch - and would cost a huge amount to do both in terms of cash-money and other resources (time would be a biggy). Also you'd have to factor in business needs, what you'd hope to achieve by going Open Source and whether or not you'd see a return - fiscal or otherwise - by moving. Even planning to think about planning to go Open Source would eat a lot of time - and after that you might even draw the conclusion that it isn't the right strategy after all!
It's an interesting topic, though. I've recently being looking into a lot of Java stuff and from that I've been exposed to the Java Community Process and to a lesser extent how companies like SpringSource work. The JSR process, although perhaps not a fit for CodeProject (support products vs. free services), is quite interesting to see (if you like looking at business processes ) as you can see the entire process from requirements to approval to specification and finally to adoption. Not many business processes are that transparent.

I've just updated some stuff in "My Settings" and I get this strange error "Your password contained text that was not compatible with our system such as script or server directives.". It contains nothing of the no such which!!
And it would appear that my updated didn't work as I still have my old signature

Can you please experiment and find a password that (obviously) isn't the one you want to use but still causes problems and then email it to me at chris at cp.cpom?
Thanks!
Never mind. Found the issue. Will try and fix ASAP

I presume you have because I cannot replicate it now.

Apparently the password field is protected against SQL injection attacks

Most of you would have observed that in GoogleMail near the footer, it would display login activity and also concurrent sessions. There is also a feature to kill any particular session.
Can something be brought in a similar way for CP too?

I like to leave random computers (in hospitals, public libraries, old folks homes) with pages open to CP under my login. Generally, this works out well - i get a higher post count, random people get to experience the Joy of CP - but, occasionally, someone will start posting things that just don't meet the high standard for unfocused rambling observations that i've set for this user name. In those scenarios, it would be handy for me - and therefore, beneficial to the site as a whole, if i could remotely log off of a particular session.

When I attempt to signon to CP from homepage header strip; ensuring that 'Remember' checkbox is unselected and when I inadvertantly succumb down to a 'Failed Logon', CP again shows the username and password screen with the 'Remember Me' checkbox selected again.
The 'Remember Me' feature is little scary particularly when logging on from a shared computer/internet kiosk.

It's sad about the SB situation. Chris, I feel for you and your team. Thanks to all of you who work hard to make CP the best even though the idiots survive.

I was briefly away from CP for a while. What happened to Soapbox? Temporarily hidden because of spam outburst or locked for only certain membership levels?

and it's carrying a bucketload of crap articles from India. I'm not racist, but jeez, this is over the top. Have you considered having two Articles Needing Approval sections? - one for India, one for everybody else?
If my theory is correct, these morons must use India as their location, because they're being given an assignment by a teacher somewhere in India. So filtering by India would always work, since they are being told to use it.
OK, rant over, move along.

I think this may be his fake profile.. Just see "ghhjhjhjj uuu yuuyuy" in his description.
Or otherwise he may be testing to post article in codeproject.

Which article are you talking about? There have been a dozen in the past two days that are crap, all from India.

Some of our best authors are from India, but unfortunately many of our worst as well. It's an issue, yes, but to add another metaphor we don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater

Thank you for your great response. I am not from india, but I know what racism is. There is a lot of racism against indians by certain folks in CP or to be more diplomatic "taking advantage of".
