Luc Pattyn wrote: The navigation panel didn't do that, it shouldn't start doing so now. And it should be the same on all supported browsers.
Yes correct. But IIRC, this color was always there for the message board's visited hyperlinks. It's the navigation pane which is now showing the same color too which, for the reasons mentioned by you, is not good.

Not green hyperlinks, I hope?

No, that's different. It has an inline style which colors it green. You see my name in Green because I have enclosed it between the HTML font tag and thus it has a higher priority and overrides the general hyperlink color defined in the stylesheet.
I checked IE8 and it was working fine (links in navigation pane was black) until I hit Ctrl+F5. Similar for IE7 compatible mode.
That means there was a CSS update recently.

By the way Luc, I am just curious how can YOU ask this?

Now there's a reason to go the VM way.

At a first I felt of COLOR BLINDNESS .
Asked near employee for confirmation.
It irritates.

Luc Pattyn wrote: on Chrome, left navigation pane shows mostly purple links
Gah! My eyes! The goggles, they do nothing!
Hope this is a bug and not the "new look"

I'm afraid it is part of the solution here[^], some wokring feature that ceased working and now got fixed. It is OK again there, but now it is bad manywhere else.

Luc Pattyn wrote: on IE7 all is well
Not so on IE 8
Any previous visited link is purple now(which for Q&A was helpful/fine), but now even left navigation pane links (& any other visited link)!

I assume it is a feature, but if so, please could we have a less strident colour? I hated magenta when EGA was all we had, and my attitude to it hasn't improved...
Or some way to configure the colours, so we can ditch it if we want. (And I do want.)

I was looking at the source for the Who's Who page, and found an errors/issues in the HTML.
0) This element - <span id="ctl00_MC_MR_ctl00_P_Status"> - contains a table that is missing the first <tr> tag. This makes it pretty much impossible to parse the page with the .Net framework's XML parsing functionality.
1) You're violating the HTML standard that by placing a <table> within a <span> element.
2) I don't know if this is intentional or not, but the ID's you're using are being incremented by 2 instead of by 1 (I expected them to be incremented by 1). For instance, I searched on Reputation, and Christin is listed 1st, me 2nd, and so on. The IDs for the elements for Christian are all ctl00. The ones for me are ctl02, and for Pete, they're ctl04, and so on.

I'll fix the first and leave you to puzzle, worridly, about the second.
There is a deep and mystical reason for it.
