The forums list has disappeared from the side of the forums.
[Edit] And they're back again.

The list comes and goes as you click from post to post in the forums. Haven't figured out a pattern yet.

I've had that on and off for several days a few days back, not today.
Have you tried some CTRL/F5 magic?

That was the only way I could figure out to keep you from catching me in the points.

He has a point, you know, he is starting to pull away again.
You must try harder.

It's a cyclical thing. he's in the UK, so he gains a few hundred on me. By the time my day is over, I've retaken the ground I lost by sleeping.

I'm busy at work with the pre holiday rush. Got to get software out the door before the big code freeze next Wednesday. After that, I'll be busier here.

We've had some of this discussion before, but I was curious about univoters. Does offsetting the univoter help a person acquire points?
General Forum Message Downvoted The author of a message loses points due to their message being down-voted by another member. Points are weighted by voting member's level. -2 25 ∞ 0 General Forum Message Upvoted The author of a message receives points due to their message being up-voted by another member. Points are weighted by voting member's level. 5 25 ∞ 0
Based on the definition, if a person votes 1 and another votes 5 (all things being equal) and the OP ends up with a 3, do they cancel out (doesn't appear to) or is that equivalent to two people voting a 3 each (not this either it seems)?
Based on what I see, it actually helps people for a univoter to vote since others will automatically bring it above a 3 again.
Also, -2 or 5 times weight says nothing about a person's rating. If I vote something a 5 and it's above a 4, does that mean the law of diminishing returns factors in? Is there a point where voting doesn't help if too many people have voted already?

The differential is marginal, and a few +1 or +2 points is meaningless in the great scheme of things.
Look at CG, JSOP or POH, the margin of a few points on that level is .001% of their totals!

True, but the number of people close to them three, especially #1, is also marginal.

You have 16.5K, so a sing point is still only .01%

True, but I was interested in the univoter's scenario in particular.

The weight applies to both the average score of the item being voted, as well as how many reputation point sthe message's user gets. For instance, a new user would have little impact on the average score, and my only give the OP 5 points for a five, while a very highly rated user's vote would not only significantly impact athe average, but might give (to serve as an example only) as many as 50 reputation points for a vote of 5.
At the same time, ANY 1 vote could be very detrimental to an article's average score, even if made by a low-rep user. It could take several 5 votes to recover even 0.1 of a point. That's why I'm not really fond of the voting system, and wish they'd just go to a "vote if useful/ignore if not useful" system, even if it's just for articles/tips/blogs.

It's the reputation points that I was wondering about. Wasn't sure if a 1-5 meant 1-5 points in reputation. Also if it's flat for all, weighted, or tied to the average rating of that post, etc. In which case, the univoter is actually helping the OP even though they don't realize it.

1 and 2 are down-votes, 4 and 5 are up-votes.
receiving an up-vote or down-vote yields/costs points (independent of the exact vote), their number is weighed by the voter's relevant color.
the act of up-voting gives you one or a few points, no weighing involved.

Yes, but that's only for the vote rating and not the reputation points, right? No votes means no additional rep points added aside from the original message. Voting a 1 or 2 would not remove rep points I would think otherwise people may go negative. I assume that voting 1-5 gives the OP 1-5 additional rep points. Unless I'm mistaken.

all I said was about rep points, not average score.
yes, people can get negative rep, it has been seen many times.

It does work with today's Who's Who layout, that should be sufficient reason to upgrade.
BTW: Especially for you, I implemented a narrow trick for you to get into third position, from a very specific angle that is.

I assume it can show him how to get into third place and not actually get him into it.

I don't think either one of you would get away with that, there is a noticeable difference in style, humour, vocabulary and spelling.
