While posting questions in programming forums or Q/A section, we may check if it contains any code & if yes then we may display alert for "You question contains code, so use code block or inline code to format" or something.
Actually Q/A section is no problem because we have option to edit the questions but in the programming forums we can't. So the above alert message surely will help enquirers to format the question clearly.
Also I have an idea about Questions(in Q/A section).
Currently we are displaying below format
Subject : Question Subject
Tags : C#, ASP.NET
Content : Question content
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
We can display Question format like as below.
Subject : Question Subject
Tags : C#, ASP.NET
Description : Question Description
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Code : public void method()
{
}
Error Message : Error # 12345, System.something.exception
Finally we may concatenate the Description, Code & error message in Question content.
Because half of our authorities comments are "share the code", "include the error message", etc.,(Even my 300-400+ comments are about these) So it will help us to get the complete questions from the enquirers at first time.

yeah but then all the editors out there wouldn't get the 2 points for adding code blocks.
I love it when people add the code blocks but you still can't understand the F***ing question...why bother...who cares.

Even today I have seen couple of questions.

Not a bad idea. I don't want to encourage people pasting in their entire code file (which this will, unfortunately, do) but if we have separate and optional boxes that impose character limits it may help guide first-timers.

I understand. For that my suggestion is we may show 2 tabs there like Simple View(Default) & Advanced View. Simple View will show the current one & Advanced View will show the suggested one. Also show Tooltip(Some thing appropriate message which should attract the Enquirers) when mouse over on Advanced View tab. That's all.

I have *had* to update my signature, adding in a crucial piece of information. The last part of the closing </small> tag is being truncated.

well you will have to make to signature shorter then........

It was 498 and got truncate to 495.
I've checked and it's not the content as it seems it only save the first 495 characters. Obviously Huie Hamster is extracting higher and higher rates from Chris and the boys.

Part of the problem is that the signature counts html tags as prt of the sig instead of just the content. I wish higher-rated users could include their avatar (the one everyone sees in their profile) in their sig.

Anyone can see your avatar by setting Profile popups in the options bar at the top of the page.

As long as I don't have to go out of my way to do it, then yes, I do.
It's kinda like jokes - they're not as funny when you have to explain them. Having to let someone know they should be terrified doesn't have the same impact as someone that just instinctively *knows* they should be.

Actually, more of a question. Is it OK to request beta testers for a shareware product on the Collaboration / Beta Testing forum?
Also, maybe you could clarify the rules with a few sentences in the forum header.
Thanks.

Yes - absolutely.

So what is acceptable then? From the name of the forum I'd assumed any collaboration/beta testing was acceptable. Is it restricted to certain things only? Are commercial websites, for instance, off-limits?
Cheers,
Drew.

Trust? That sounds dangerous!
IMO, though, I think it'll be interesting to see what others are up to, especially for commercial stuff. I've got no problem trying things out for others regardless of whether they intend to cash in on it or not.
Thanks Chris.
Cheers,
Drew.

In every post he makes on CP he includes an e-mail address of someone he claims is a troll on Craig's List. And, he does this elsewhere on the net ... edit ... link removed at request of Wizardzz for good reasons ...
I consider that an inappropriate use of CodeProject. If there is a real person, with a real e-mail address, that he's broadcasting here: consider they might possibly take legal action. And if not a real e-mail address, then he's contributing to the search engine's indexing of CP pages using that unreal address.
This is a case where having a dialog to give a reason for the report would be very useful.
best, Bill
