I agree. I don't use Java or Perl et al much, but the support community here *is great* after all - i support that suggestion

Yes. I agree with you there...
Perhaps an "Other Languages" forum would be a good idea.

Like most people, i use the CodeProject forums to store all my important data (CC#s, passwords, Corey Feldman's phone #) encoded within seemingly pointless rants and comments. I depend on the reliability of these forums, and of the search feature, to give me accesses to this data, and truely appreciate the service provided by this site.
Sadly, it seems i am no longer able to load older posts, as retrieving them takes too long and ISA server times out before the page loads. For instance:
this post won't load.
I'm not sure what, if anything, can be done about this, but...

Chris, let me know if you have any objections to this layout for Code Project Projects.
I envision a series of articles listed under "Miscellaneous Libraries and Projects"/"Code Projects" with each article containing specific information about different areas of the project.
1) Main Page containing the project Abstract as the article text plus any critical documents.
2) Project Management where team membership is handled and tasks are assigned.
3) Source Management where the code is stored.
4) Project Design where the ideas/enhancements are discussed and where the design documentation resides.
5) Project Diary containing project goals, milestones, timelines, etc. and open discussions.
So it will basically be like a 5 part article with reference links to each part.
I'm going to try to throw together a template that will be used as well.
Again, let me know if I'm way off base or if I'm stepping on toes, etc.

Sometimes I want to know when a thread changes not just when someone replies to my message in the thread. It would be cool to get a message if I wanted.
Or how about...
A watch this thread button that adds the thread you are viewing it to a watched thread list much like the Bookmarked Articles list.

Very Good Idea

Got my 5. It will be especially helpful with all this CP2 business going down. I am missing things because they are not direct replies to me.
I like the idea of a "Watch this thread" button.
[Edit] Though I imagine the CP email server is taxed enough as it is. Maybe we can have a limit of say being only able to watch 5 threads at a time. If I am already watching 5 and I add another then the oldest gest kicked from the watch list. Not sure if that would get around the server resources problem that a Watch this thread system introduces.[/Edit]

How about this? Allow certain people to lock a thread message to stop replies. Perhaps this would be based on being a member for a certain period of time, or gold level, or being a supporter or editor or admin. Basically, when posting a message let the user select an option that causes the reply link to be suppressed when viewing the thread.
I can see how you would not want people to abuse the system by locking up discussions, but it can come in handy. Especially when you want to post something on your personal message board but don't want replies. Mainly, I was thinking of the Info only posts for the CPP voting and such.

How about filtering out messages with "Pls help me" etc. as the title ?

Aw, that's no fun! How about adding Cricket and Football to the list? Especially football, as I think the season is starting sometime soon; we might as well head it off at the pass.

Exactly what I am saying! Math, that's no fun. Thanks for backing me up Roger.
In the process of adding cricket, rugby, football, baseball and tongue-gymnastics I have devised the perfect filter: "Show me only stuff I want to see, damnit."
p.s. Still looking into your ASP session problem. It is darned strange, maybe you can send a page of the offending code to me? Or you could do what MS support will say; Oh yeah, that bug, just reinstall Windows.

Maybe as part of the preference settings we should be able to enter a list of keywords to exclude from the topics displayed.

Works every time! Actually, I rebuilt everything this morning with a new twist. On a bad login I .Execute the 'Go Away' page, then on return I .Transfer back to the opening page. That restored the function it had before, though it still doesn't give the appearance I want. You can see what I'm getting here. It doesn't look quite right, but it will do in a pinch - it's only for internal maintenance.

How about filtering out Anonymous posts too. Actually being able to filter out certain individuals would be cool too.
