That's pretty much it - it's old code going back to the Netscape 4 days. It'll get cleaned up but it's not a critical issue so it will just have to sit and take it's turn with all the other would-like-to-have's. The 'would like to have the site fast' is currently in the Doctor's office so everyone else will have to wait.

yeah, and since user Agent Switcher Extention for Firefox actually solves* the problem, it's really not an issue now. Me as anti-IE user haven't even noticed that something was wrong - I got used to small font ect. cuz I use other than IE for a long time. As I originaly wrote - I thought it was by design Silly me!

Hi,
Following is my suggestion.Members should be able to set an alert for any discussion. ie, currently I get a mail alert if someone replies to my post. But if I m not taking part in some discussion and still wants to get an alert if there is a new post to the thread, there should be some way.
I know there is already a lot of small issues in the todo list for Chris. But hopes he add this one also to that list, if its not there already.

I agree with you. Maybe Chris can make an application, just like IM, where you can get alert.

I seriously don't think Chris is gonna find the time to write a full IM application in the next couple of years

An IM application for alert is not a suggested solution nowadays where alert will be limited to the system where the application is installed. A mail alert sounds good, this functionality is already over there in CP also, just allow to add multiple users to the alert list is all that required.

True, but with mail alert, we must check it regularly, and that`s not good.

Have you tried Desktop Bob[^]
Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but could be helpful.

Thats a different case where we get alert for all the posts, But wot is missing is if someone wants an alert for a particular post(not even for the entire thread).

I can understand ditching the Last link for performance reasons. I rarely used it anyway. But... i was kinda used to the position of the Next link, and now i keep hitting Prev by mistake.
Any chance of putting last back in, and just making it disabled or invisible (First Prev Next Last )?

Ha. I mentioned that at a post in the lounge about all the new changes. Glad to see I wasn't alone.

Is there a way if i want to read only the threads that I created. Say, i created a thread in C#, lounge, XML forum, then it will only show the threads and replies associated with that thread. I find it difficult to navigate through the entire forum especially if i've posted a lot. Thanks for considering this.

Out of curiosity, why would this help on CodeProject?

cuz there are spammers too. Not much, bt you can't say you never saw any here, can you?
<paranoia>Even if there weren't spammers, and rest of internet used nofollow, where do you think spammers would go?
Was me who 5'ed Chris' response - cuz I liked that quickness...

AFAIK the forums are not visible to search engines so nofollow is of no use there.
Articles that are just spam are removed quickly, likely before any search engines get a chance to index them.
Articles that contain valid links however should be followed correctly because they could be related topics, support pages, demos, etc.
So I just don't see how it would be useful on CodeProject?

You almost got me. I was like, again, I forgot that search engines don't index forum. BUT comments on articles ARE indexed. Example[^].
And spammers misuse it. Coder4rent[^]

Yes. Same goes for valid links in blogs... Bt what is valid link and what isn't?

If you start treating every link with mistrust by default then the whole idea of the Internet breaks down IMO. Spamming is nothing new.
Out of interest, that link you gave for Coder4rent, what is wrong with those matches?

hmm. I must agree with this. Anyway I was talking about links in comments and blogs... In this (limited) playground I think links more confuse search engines than they bring someting good. IMO you are right that mistrust links by default is bad. I belive nofollow being default is temporaly solution, before search engines became more advanced and being able to figure out what is relevant information and what is garbage (they are already trying, bt there is long way to go).
In articles is highly probable that links are relevant, I am aginst nofollow tag there.

Have you seen his posts? Maybe I am paranoic (or desperately trying to prove my point), or he is simply dumb (or both), bt I consider most of his posts as a plain spam.
