I'm not sure I see what the problem with the HTML is. If the HTML you get using the "Get HTML" is just so awful you can't deal with it, then just send us the original HTML you sent with whatever changes you need. We'll work with you to make updates easy.

I did'nt say i can't deal with it i said the complete structure is gone and it is very hard to deal with it. My problem is that the indenting is gone, all comments are gone, most line breaks are either gone or moved since the html code seems to be formatted more or less into a monolithic block. (probably to optimize for low bandwidth) Closing tags appear on places where I don't expect them or they completely disappear. Editing table content without proper indentation is very difficult because I cant find the proper fields any more.
For updates I use a text editor. So every time I want to make an update i download the code, reformat in order to get a little structure back, apply the changes and resubmit it. Just to do the same the next time. This stopped being fun after two updates, I don't have time for this.
Letting your editors change the html is fine but does not work when making a lot of changes. It seems it is much easier to use unedited reader contributions since i assume that when choosing this option comments, indentations and linebreaks are where i left them . (until the article gets a review)

Tried that once, the only help I got was an E-mail telling me to use the "Get HTML" button and to re-submit my article. I've only written two articles for your site, but to be honest, after the attitude I was given and all the 'please do it again' I got, I am very weary about submitting anything new.

We try very hard to ensure that updating articles is easy both for the submitter and for us. Often we can spend several hours formatting a messy Word-generated article only to have an author resubmit the same article with a minor change the following day. Asking the author to dowload the formatted HTML means they get to see how we clean up the HTML (which then helps them understand how to help us) and saves us sometimes hours of work.
Without knowing the context of the email you received asking you to use the "Get HTML" button I can't comment. But I would be very surprised if you were given an "attitude" since Smitha is possibly the nicest human being I've met in my life, barring my mother of course.

Why couldn't you just use something like HTML Tidy[^] to clean-up the returned mark-up?
There are plenty of HTML editors out there (e.g., HTML-Kit[^]) that directly integrate with HTML Tidy, making it even easier to use ...
Just a thought.

Usually it's the html editors that create the code mess. I dont think i would do the editor any favor using one. For instance: Have you ever seen html after being processed with Frontpage? There may be good ones out there but all i know had these issues. Nevertheless I'll have a look at HTML kit. Thanx for the hint.

An answer to a problem can often be found in the discussion boards. It would be good to offer a search facility within the discussion boards. This would probably aid yourselvs as it could cut down on the repeat number of discussions to save users paging through them to find an answer.

The option already exisits. It is called "Search Comments" and appears at the top of each message board on the right hand side, just above the forum contents.

Ok, this is so minor I feel silly for suggesting it; the wink emoticon is so subtle, when you're reading a post it looks just like a normal smile emoticon unless you happen to notice that a second later the eye winks. I think maybe the wink should be a static wink? But I'm sure you guys have much MUCH bigger things keeping you busy

It would be nice if the search results for articles were sortable based on a particular rating or votes or authour or category.
Their could possibly be a radio button based selection for the kind of sorting the user is looking for.

I posted a new article[^] today about WPF. Usually when I post a WPF article, it will appear under the 'All Topics', '.NET', and 'C#' views. This article has only shown up under 'All Topics.' Is there a reason for that, or has something gone wrong?

Holy crap! Now the WPF article just appeared in the C# and .NET views! What timing... Well, I suppose there might still be an issue with regards to how long it takes for a WPF article to make it's way to those views. But I guess this is now an Extremely Low Priority Issue.

The current layout for the "Rate this message" and "Report as Spam or Abuse" links in the messages makes it easy to mis-rate a message. If you've had enough coffee, it's possible to have a twitch of the mouse convert what was going to be a '5' rating into a 'Spam' rating.
How about something like this:
<nobr>Rate this message: Abuse Spam 1 2 3 4 5 (out of 5)
I think this also makes it a little clearer that you get one vote (you can't give a post a '1', and then decide it's 'abuse' as well).

I agree with your point, but perhaps this layout might be better:
Rate this message: 1 2 3 4 5 (out of 5) Abuse Spam
That layout would emphasize the normal 1 - 5 rating options, which are typically more important than the Abuse & Spam options. It also puts more space between a numeric rating value (1 - 5) and the Abuse & Spam options. In your layout, the Spam and 1 options are dangerously close!

You get a confirmation prompt before a Spam or Abuse vote is counted.
