Depends on how you define "close".

I guess I assumed you were going to do the Download Count first, since that seems to me to be a more reliable gauge of an article's appeal than bookmarks, and (unlike votes) is not dependent on whether the reader feels like doing it.

The issue is that we have over 20,000 articles, and nearly double that in downloads, and we've not been tracking download counts. What we are doing is:
- developing a log scanner that will scan nearly a terabyte of IIS logs to extract historical information and seed the database with the download counts so far
- developing a parser that will strip out the download links in articles and replace the links with a tracking link and download count indicator
- reworking the submission wizard so that downloads are no longer explicitely included in the text, but instead included automatically using the above control
This is a fairly big job, but most of it has been done. Just need to get some breathing space to finish it up.

OK, thanks for letting me know.
Are you going to have a beta of the new submission wizard?
|
|
|
|
|
It will be the same as the old with the exception of the download section, which will merely formalise what we already have and will still allow flexibility in naming the download links. I'll certainly try and open it up for a limited beta before we go live.
I know there's a laundry list of enhancements for the submission wizard itself, but they will, unfortunately, have to wait a little longer.

Yes, but neither is anything I'd trust.

Great job Chris and CP Admins!!!

It's here.
I guess that doesn't count as close. Not even close to be being close.
But better late than never.

Just tried replying to a post in the Lounge and received a plain white page with the message:
"Error: Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request.. Ticket: "
That's the whole message - there was no ticket number. It repeated after each of three or four tries.
Throw Chris in a shower and sober him up while this is still going on; it's probably intermittent, and he won't want to miss it.

Yep - I just uploaded a new version of the site so you would have been trapped in-between pages. The Viewstate of the old page wouldn't have matched the new page on a post back so the ASP.NET engine gets all scared and confused. Just try again after a fresh page load and it will be all good.

That sounds reasonable. I must say, if that error was generated by IIS, it's the most informative I've ever seen from a Microsoft product. Maybe some small part of the MS team is finally beginning to "get it."

Actually we're having to put in lots of code to hide these annoyingly verbose, accurate and informative error messages. I'll check to see why that slipped through and ensure that next time you get a 'An error occured. Please reboot your machine, or, if that fails to help, reinstall your local operating system'.

I was googling for something and came across this: http://www.123aspx.com/redir.aspx?res=32750[^]
Aside from a tiny bar at the top, everything is CP content.

I got this when clicking save after changing my subscription settings: The Password and Password confirmation do not exactly match MY change did go through anyway.

The modify page is forgiving in that if one piece of info is invalid then other changes will go through regardless.
