If you post an article, a tip or a blog post and then update it to a new version, you get edit points.
If you post a question or answer and someone else edits the typos or formatting issues, they get points.
If you edit someone else's questions or answers to fix typos, formatting, or correctness, you get points.
I don't see this difffers from the final case:
If you edit your own question or answer to fix typos, formatting, or correctness, you get points.
The general problem many have with this is "Doesn't that mean I can keep editing my own stuff and get lots of points"? The answer is yes, and in fact yes, you can keep editing *anyone*'s posts (given enough rep) to get points in this manner. That's why we have a limit on gaining points for these events per day.

Surprisingly, I edit my own posts quite often, particularly in Q&A. If you get a comment back that indicates a continued lack of understanding (no sh*t, Sherlock!) I often copy the comment into the body of my answer in bold, then add a response below it - that way I can use links, code blocks, and emphasis as necessary.
I do see these as deserving of extra points, to be honest.
Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together.

Fair enough.
I had to edit my own answer twice as well many times. I think we could do better by having a automatic minor edit or major edit check though. I sort of remember the option "Minor Edit" available when I edited some question or so. Removed sometimes back I think!
