Actually I suggested Chris that articles which won the monthly competitions should have "MFC / C++ : March Article of the Month" plaque image or something like that in recognition.

How about some sort of reward for Message Voting? Seems little incentive to click 12345
Or is message voting on meant to be used in the extremes of good/bad?

voting seems to go like this:
5: the post was funny, well put, or you agree with the content.
4: it was pretty good, but not worth a 5. or, you know if you give it a 5, someone will come along and give it a 1, out of spite.
3: used only rarely: usually when you want to bring a post's rating back to normal levels, gently.
2: used when you can't find the "1"
1: the post was incoherent, a flame or troll, or you simply disagree with the content but lack the ability to put that disagreement into words. it can also be used when you don't like the person who posted. it's not uncommon to see 1's applied to every post made by a particular person, regardless of content.
(i am sure this was not the intent of implementing the voting system)

I think he is talking about himself, b'cos lot of his posts (90%) in soapbox get default 1 rating.

Chris L and I are the 1-brothers We both have a very similar CP past where articles have been 1-downed by people and now posts too.

Am I the only one using the Send to a friend feature?
However, I'll give it a try again: http://www.codeproject.com/script/comments/forums.asp?msg=457912&forumid=1645#xx457912xx[^]

Probably. Who needs it anyway? If anyone is worth to be called a friend he/she knows and uses CP (and thus the article) anyway. So?

Because I am a friend of myself Sometimes I am reading an interesting article while at home, which might be helpful at my job, therefore I often send links to myself

Then maybe you should checkout the "My Bookmark" functionality? Works really nice.

I know that feature. However, it works nice only if you have less than 30 bookmarks set

Doh, didnt know that. Well then, forget it and use that[^] instead, this solves your problem with bookmarks (and some others too).

a post with 1 or more "1" votes will be colored normally. the gray color doesn't appear until the rating goes above 1.0 but below 2.5 (? some magic number).
don't understand. feel dumb. need nap.

Naw, it just takes 3 or more votes to show. They can be all 1s or just end up <2.5 (or whatever).

From the FAQ:
The Noise level drop-down allows you to specify the minimum score a message must have in order for it to appear normally on the boards.
If a message has been given a score that is below your noise threshold then it will appear dimmed out on the boards. A message must have at least 5 votes and be below your threshold to be grayed out.
Messages that have been voted greater than 4.5 will be marked as red regardless of the the number of votes it has.
cheers,
Chris Maunder

looks like the limit is actually (as Shog points out) 3 votes, not 5.
and, what are the numeric levels of the thresholds?

IMHO, it might have been better to change the number of votes needed to colour a post grey from 3 to 5. It's getting more and more common for "normal" posts to be downvoted easily.
