Would it be similar to the Code Project weekly polls
yup

Are you going to restrict project creation somehow or will anyone be able to create one (like articles)?
I imagine I'll let anyone open a new project. The rating system will be in place, as well as a count of the number of members involved and we'll be able to see when it was last updated. Obviously it will be easy enough to nuke inactive or poor quality projects.
I should warn you though that my free time is a little non-existant at the moment, and for the next few days I will be in Dallas at TechEd. All work on this will be done on the cheap, so to speak, but I think there's enough infrastructure already that this shouldn't actually hold back anyone.
Another reason that time is slim at the moment (and no, it's got nothing to do with the time cube) is because we're working again on a project we let slide about a year ago. More on that later.

that's cool. as long as we can have simultaneous polls.

OK by me. I'd just hate for about 20 projects to spring up on the first day, but there's nothing we can do about that.

We all know its a work in progress and we'll use anything you can give us. I may be able to find some "under construction" graphics for you to use. Like maybe an animated gif of a sign of a man digging.

I don't know if you've been following CPP lately, but I think we're getting very close to a point where we're ready to startup our projects.
Can you give me an idea of where you're at with this? If you think its going to be a while before these changes can be made, then perhaps we should use the existing article format. I am at your mercy at the moment.
3 Things I think we definitely need for projects:
1) the ability to add or remove authors from a project
2) creation of polls as discussed earlier
3) more than one message area
thanks Chris

And, of course, a new article category - shouldn't be too hard.

There is already a Code Project Projects category we could use.

Is there a way we can setup mailing lists for CPP? At least so project leaders can email all of their team members.
let me know.
thanks

Since this will have CPs name plastered all over it, maybe we need to facilitate code review somehow. Maybe we can have a separate message section for this where team members must add a comment of their code changes and a request for a review of their code. It would be nice to have this like Question Time where the last few posts are visible on the main page.
Also, would it be possible to have multiple "Question Times" on a project page? One each for Code Review, Latest Polls, Latest discussion threads.
I'm not going to suggest a layout to you since that's your job, but having all of this available on the project page would be great. I wish I could show you visually what I mean, but I think I see a project as multiple web pages with a main project page linking them all up. How do you envision it?

Unsing Opera, the forum tells me that Dynamic view is unavailable.
Although I don't know the exact D-HTML DOM-structure of Opera, I guess that it would match 1:1 to the one in Internet-Explorer.
So It would be easy for Chris to just allow the Dynamic view for Opera, without changing the D-HTML code at all?
Am I correct?

Don't we wish. Opera is very good at HTML and CSS, but rather poor at DOM. The upcoming release of Opera apparently will address this, but till then to get func. like that working in Opera requires Opera specific code.

Real geeks build their own real-world interfaces. In fact from the point of "employability" any geek should know both.
Why don't we add a topic about electronic hardware (I do not talk about adding memory to your computer), I mean real electronics interfaced to the computer.

The options for viewing threads are good. But the recent activity surrounding a CodeProject group collaboration have really pointed out a weakness in the thread views.
CP could greatly benefit from having a treeview style thread view that would allow someone to view a certain message depth.

Hello,
I apologise from the outset for cross-posting, but I didn't see any recent activity on behalf of the people running codeproject in the general discussion forum - and I think it's a point worth considering.
I propose that it would be great in the future if people included a .mak file as part of any code submission. Like hundreds of thousands of others, our company has yet to fork out for the newest Visual Studio release - thus the solution files are no good to us, as we are still working with 6.
I think .mak files are used by a variety of IDEs and compilers - not just the MS ones. I know this site seems to be mostly MS oriented and thus encouraging upgrades etc, but I think the key objective is to spread knowledge - and this simple export could help everyone - despite their version or type of compiler.
Cheers,
Paul

With 5000 message boards on this site we can't be everywhere at once This suggestions board send all postings directly to me so I'm always monitoring this particular board.
Make files in projects would be great but unfortunately it's difficult enough trying to ensure that we get even the basics right (no debug builds, no object files, actually including a demo project etc).

And here I was thinking the people who made this site so useful must be omnipotent or something That’s the only reason I cross posted – I know it’s not really the done thing but I wanted one of you guys to read it
I accept it must be difficult sometimes to get people to get the basics right, but a mere suggestion somewhere in the guidelines saying this would be a useful thing to would be good. Infact a few articles I've seen recently are merely more then a screenshot and something along the lines of "enjoy" - but that's a different matter (not many developers like to document stuff I guess!)
I have to admit that the article I posted myself does not have a .mak file with it – but then again you don’t think of these things until they start effecting you sometimes I know if it were suggested at the time I wrote the article I would have included one for the sake of a couple of mouse clicks.
Anyway that's it, thanks for listening!

Thanks, I've added that to my bookmarks. Tis a bit poor that MS keep changing their project versions - I thought they had got past all this sort of thing.
Perhaps someone could code an all encompassing intergrated project converter thing for Visual Studio .Net - now that would be sweet and surely a good contender for that competition currently going on.
I can't do that myself of course, not having VS .Net...
