When you use <PRE> tags to wrap code blocks in messages, the stylesheet used to display the code removes all blank lines, which in many cases makes the code sample difficult to follow because you lose the "break" between natural logical process sets.
Can we fix this, please? It should only be a minor tweak to one stylesheet entry.
Example below, there should be a blank line before each comment:

If i remember right, this is an IE bug - just do like the rest of us, and throw a space in with each blank line while silently cursing Microsoft.

I experience frequent errors when brwsign CP ("formatted" error page, Error code seems always to be 0)
It always seems to happen when the browser tries to fetch a page with an ad, the final URL is usually http://www.codeproject.com/info/error500.asp?500;http://www.codeproject.com/script/comments/fetchAd.asp or similar
Response times are good to great, occurence is sporadic - it might work half a second later, or it might fail for three clicks.

I've effectively disabled fetchad and am working to find out what and why the thing is playing up.

Cause found. It's none other than a high load issue that is causing servers to cycle. They do that in the traditional ASP way whereby the ASP process crashes and our health monitor detects and restarts. Yes, we're moving to IIS 6 as soon as we can. What we've done is turn off IP affinity in our load balancing which means when you view one page on one server things are fine, but the next page view may take you to a server that has just crashed/cycled, meaning it looks all bad. Also, when you click on a message in the forums and the ads refresh, the ad refresh itself might be served from a server that's just cycled (or about to) so it, again, looks all bad.
Normally cycling is done very quickly and servers crashing are usually rare. However, over the weekend we unplugged one of our bottlenecks and so were able to increase bandwidth and hence load. The flip side is that we've almost instantly run up against a new bottleneck, causing the problems. We've tightened up bandwidth a little in the hope that a balance will be restored.

Guy A posts a message, B anwers him/her. A gets notified thru' e-mail.
C answers B, B gets notified but A doesn't.
Doesn't it make sense to notify A as well, while all of them are in the same hierarchy?

In some cases this would be good, but think what happens when you start a post, and then somebody else replies with something mostly unrelated, which gets lots of replies that are totally unrelated to your original post - you'd get dozens of emails all telling you about posts that don't interest you at all

There are many more cases where this is an annoyance, than where it is helpful.
If at all, this should be a separate feature: "watch this thread: subscribe/unsubscribe". However, there are no recent threads I can remember where this would have been useful. This requires additional data to be stored, and in a busy thread, each reply could generate hundreds of e-mails.

Then how about getting replies for only three to five roots down. This way, if a person keeps replying he skips a message, but answers the next one, he'll get as much replies as he answers plus five.
Chris could also set it up that for each message you post, you can have a checkmark that allows you to get all replies to what you've posted.

Complicated and Arbitrary (from usability POV)
Wha I would consider "the one practical approach" is
a) subsribe/unsubscribe to an entire thread
b) aggregated notifications, i.e. you don't get additional notify's for the same thread until you log in again. Otherwise, this would be a build in mail server bomb.
If this feature will ever see the light of the day depends on two things:
a) Internal database structure: how expensive is to find the thread it belongs to (not just the parent)? How much additional information is required?
b) How much does e-mail traffic add to Chris' monthly Bill?

The first approach seems practical. We most certainly do not want to add to Chrisis (pardon the pun) monthly bill. The aggregated notification wouldn't work for people who are always "logged" on. I'm assuming that logged in the sense that you use cookies to save your info. Aren't all CP-ians logged on all the time?

guess what, i have a suggestion for you 
well, here it is. when user post some lines of code on th forums, the usually copy and paste their code ; that means that they rarely remember to change the < and > around the include file names in the #include directives. it becomes tiring to post one more message to ask for the file names.
SO, i suggest you to script for a little piece of code that change the < and the > into the corresponding HTML codes when the #include keyword was encoutered just before for example, and if you like more, this could happend only into <PRE>...</PRE> tags...
tell me what you think about that...

To be honest. I like the fact that you can't just copy and paste code into a forum post.
Very rarely should you need to post the entire code. You should just need to post the part that you've identified is causing your problem. Anything else is just clutter and indicates that the poster hasn't put much effort into resolving the problem.
Posters who have put effort into their question description are more likely to get answered.

ok for copy/paste, but when you type your code, you often forget to replace the < > into their html code...
that would be helpful because, the checkbox "do not treat <'s as HMTL tags" is sometimes unusable... for example, if you want to write a colorized text, with bold/italic/underlined fonts, you cannot while the checkbox is selected...
of course, not fogetting to click on the < and > buttons would be better, but that is rarely the case of many of us.

To add to what Michael said, there is an option "Do not treat <'s as HTML tags" on the post page that a user can click if the need to. Otherwise it allows users to submit HTMLful pages.

When you want to give me a link to a forum posting use the "Get Link" button and do NOT copy the address bar - it won't work if you've been browsing because the address bar is showing you relative to the start of the page, which will move add people add posts.
I just want to add that I agree with Michael, if people are so lazy that they just want to dump pages of source code into a post without thought then I'm really not interested. If they are thoughtful and consise then it takes very little effort to put < in the few places it is needed for to get the post readable. Heck, sometimes I produce quite a long reply and I have to put lots of the < all over the place to make it readable. But that is fine by me.

Message postings and replies in CP forums trigger a mail to the original message author or article author and the from address is forums@codeproject.com
There is a line (first line perhaps) which says 'Sent from unattended mailbox' but the next line itself carries the address of the sender.
My suggestion is that, instead of having forums@codeproject.com, the from address can be directly set as this address. Or the ReplyTo header can be set to the senders address. Is'nt it?

The reply to address was changed to the forums email because many people were posting messages with dud email addresses which then caused a bounce back to the person who originally posted the message.

Hi:
When mouse is hovered over 'MessageBoards' a nice DHTML pulldown menu pops up. It really looks nice. But when there any dropdowns before the pulldown menu stops, a window (hole) appears in the dropdown menu. I think in those cases, the dropdown menu/select dropdown control need to be adjusted of its zIndex property.
