Let’s talk about the Ultrabook, one of the latest Intel’s products. If you’re not familiar with the new term, let me tell you it’s just the way Intel calls a reference definition for a new line of laptops. Yesterday I had in my hands an Acer’s Aspire S3, and I want to share my thoughts about it.
I want to be honest, I really didn’t have high expectations of a small form factor machine due to my job requiring a high typing need (I’m a Software Development Manager), so when I received the laptop’s box (there is a picture below) I just though "OK my new netbook, here we go".
By other hand I was a former Acer consumer and my perception of my past Acer products it was like "great machines inside, not too great machines outside", but I was so wrong because right after I unpacked the machine I realized the Acer Aspire S3 it’s all about elegant and modern design, so I took it out the box to continue my exploring.
When I hold by first time this Intel’s Ultrabook I felt amazed due to its appealing slim and its terrific weight. The Ultrabook thickness is equals to a tablet thickness, just a bit bigger than a high end smart phone and almost a third part compared with my Lenovo Thinnkpad T410 as you can see in the pictures below.
The Ultrabook weight is incomparable with another existing laptop or tablet in the market. Before lifting the Aspire S3 my definition of light weight was my wife’s HP Mini, but lightness was redefined by the Ultrabook and this is very important because I use to take my laptop everywhere in a daily basis.
Immediately after I lifted the Ultrabook I started looking the incredible surface of this machine, it’s very soft and looks like resistant, I also found out the HDMI and USBs presence which are basic requirements nowadays. I took a look in the back of the Ultrabook and I delighted by the fact that screws are just enough (I have seen laptops with almost 20 screws at the back) and their distribution follows an ordered pattern, which improves the excellent esthetic sense.
My first user experience with the Aspire S3 can be summarized as: cool slimness, great design, ultra-portable and instant confidence. I’m excited working with this machine in real world conditions, so stay tuned for upcoming more in-depth reviews.
