Once upon a time, we were awestruck by the “solo climber”, the programmer who could single-handedly write a magnum opus on a barebones machine such as the Apple ][ with its 64 kilobytes of memory, and 8-bit processor running at 1MHz. On the down side, you can't blame bugs on anyone else

The changes with Visual Studio 2015 and .NET Core 5, aka vNext, have churned up quite a bit of conversation. Cheese moved, mice complain
(and of course if cheese didn't move, mice would complain)

Quote: As a result some enterprise developers will be faced with tough choices. Those choices are to adopt new processes, learn and bring it safely and securely to their enterprise, or resist and hold on to what will eventually be legacy software. He skips over other, obvious choices such as continue with existing tools that work fine and can be used to create anything that is needed.

Article says: “Any change is anti-enterprise.”
So true.
Giants cannot be bothered about the business of gnats.
Then the gnats clog up the Giant's eyes. Agh! Giant can't see where he is going. Steps off cloud and plummets to earth.

The last paragraph reads:
Quote: Spend less time worrying about who Microsoft hates or what language or framework is declared dead this week. Instead, embrace progress, engage in active self-improvement and education. Be the person who abandons the old way of thinking, be more productive, be cross platform, be open source. If you do, you’ll find yourself armed with a unique set of skills, ready to solve the problems of tomorrow instead of idly working on problems from the past.
That pretty-well sums up my thoughts.

Microsoft and other tool developers want the median salary for developers to decrease so they can increase their own profits. They do not want a population of highly-skilled developers who can think for themselves.

With hundreds of thousands of downloads per week, tools like Bower, Grunt, Gulp, and Node have become mainstream.
So in other words, change is being led by command line tools with obscure syntax and by frameworks with no decent coding or debugging support, and built on a previous language that everyone loves to hate.
And that's called progress???

That really is a spot on explanation of the situation. Very funny...at least it's funny in the sad sort of way.
I guess it's actually so sad I have to laugh so I don't cry. Is this 2015? Don't we have better technology?
Answer: YES, we do!

Yeah, I hate the fiddling needed to use those elephanting compute like it's 1989 CLI driven platforms too. Having to use a crappy editor like eclipse or sublime instead of VS to do my coding in only ads another layer of suckage.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

In another blow to the plight of achieving diversity in tech, Chinese startups have apparently started hiring “programming cheerleaders” to spur on their mostly-male developer workforce. From general chit-chat to ping-pong, the practice is catching on. "Oh Mickey, you're so fine"
Please, someone tell me this is a hoax.

Cue the Fish Cheer!
Actually, I did find that playing ping pong with a female asian colleague -- a talented developer, not just a pretty face -- was good for my motivation. Maybe these "cheerleaders" could be trained to do code reviews?

That's just wrong on so many levels. We need less sexism, not more. Then again, this is Asia where you can get away with a lot that would never fly here in the US.
This seems like something I would find on The Onion - unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a joke.
