I worked with a full-stack developer once. She was very talented. She always said she enjoyed night work best of all.
Make what you will of that!

The giants of the connected world are finally waking up to one of the biggest obstacles in their stated missions of connecting billions more people to the internet: The language barrier. Just repeat the question a little louder. That always helps.

I know. You think you were hired to write code. In fact, your entire interview process centered around how well you could write code. And I’m sure you do it really well. I thought it was in the job description?

I feel some confusion between job (as assignment) and goal here...

Not an unreasonable premise, but it comes off as smug (and even slightly bitchy), so it will alienate the people it needs to speak to the most.
A little self-effacement would help, rather than highly and mightily telling people they're doing stuff wrong, but the writer obviously didn't want to do that.
[edit] I was unaware that it was written by a woman, because I know several males who would write it in exactly the same way.

The article seems good at first sight, but after reading it I just can't see it working even in a "2-men-shop" not to mention lager companies. Is it really dev's job to ensure (aka test) that app runs on wide range of environments? Isn't it what QA is for? Is it really dev's job to improve UI and measure the change? How about designers and UX specialists? How about A/B testing?
So we can fire whole QA team and save on designers, UX and possibly others because it's dev's job to write perfectly running code with intuitive user interface without any flows, right?
Good luck with that approach

The article's title is stupid. It seems what the author means is "Writing code is a necessary but not sufficient part of the process of developing a product that meets the customer's needs."
IMHO, a developer's job is to write extensible, performant, maintainable, testable and well tested code, that meets the requirements identified by the PM and implements (in the case of UI) the UX designed by the usability team. Of course, this assumes the existence of competent product managers, BAs and UX designers.

PLINY, named after Pliny the Elder who wrote one of the earliest encyclopedias ever, will actually be a tool that can automatically complete a programmer's draft -- and yes, it will work somewhat like the autocomplete on your smartphones. For all your 'need codes plz' moments
Autocomplete for coding. What could possibly go wrong with that?

Many are suggesting that everyone learn computer programming, and that coding be a core component of our educational system. Here's a more measured approach. Step 1: Learn to think
everyone needs to learn to ...
Cook, clean, sew, fix things, budget, etc.
That'd be much more valuable
After cooking a few meals outside of my parents house, I quickly installed a fire-alarm. It has saved my arse quite some times.
The text that "everyone should learn programming" is coming from some outdated dimwits from the teaching-industry that does not even know the difference between "operating" a computer and "programming" one. Schooling should be banned, and education reinstated.
