passwordless means no password at all
that is type:
root<enter>
<enter>

|
|
|
Yes, I do that. I type root as the user name and password is blank but the screen display Incorrect login. I don't know what to do with it. Have you try this operating system yet?

FreeBSD is my main OS, but I don't use the live CD, so I can't directly answer questions. Try a different support area, most people on code project use windows. I'm not sure which is best though.
Make sure you specify exactly what you are typing, the exact version of the CD you are using, where you got it from.

I have 2 reason that I use FreeBSD LiveCD:
1. I want to learn UNIX at home for personal use and education purpose only. I want to know how it working windows and linux environment.
2. Because I have less PC and less of hard disk space, most of operating system that I use is LIVECD (to save disk space). Except windows and linux redhat that I have to install on hard disk. For Suse linux (both KDE and Genome), Knoppix and Mandrake, I use LiveCD. Because I just need it when I need to study...

I have post this question at UNIX Forum[^], but there is no answer. For me, in codeproject I will answer any question that I know clear, whether it relate to windows or linux (I just begin linux too).

Hello,
How can I find winXP password?
Thanks.
|
|
|

The password in windows is store in SAM database. This file is reside on %systemroot%\repair and the file name is sam . If you want to know the password, I think you should use thrid party software to get the password from the user account in sam . As far as I know, winxp also have the feature for your to store you backup of your password in the diskette. This is might be the good solution too for you to find the password that you have forgotten.

Check under the keyboard - maybe someone wrote it down. Otherwise, you can't. Numerous hacks for revealing Windows passwords have appeared on the Internet over the years, decrypting passwords for all of the Windows 9x series and WinNT, but I've yet to see one that claims to be able to retrieve a Win2K or XP password. If you lose your password for either of these you have to reinstall Windows.

First you need to retrieve SAM file, as mentioned in previous replies. Then you need to crack this file to retrieve passwords. Best way to crack SAM is to use cryptoanalysis (e.g RainbowCrack), and if password is simple, use bruteforce attack.
If you need help in cracking SAM file, I can crack the file for you. Just copy and paste text of SAM in reply!

Not true Roger. Look at this[^], it is a freeware Linux based bootdisk that will change an unknown password for an NT/2000/XP install.
Been a while since I have used it but when I did it was only good at setting a password to blank. I always killed the Administrator account and then could change any other account to what I want.
Then there is commercial software like Winternals ERD Commander that are able to change passwords to accounts that they show you in a list.

Handy, but not the same as retrieving the password. There are a lot of products to reset it, but none I've found to learn what the existing password is. Sometimes you don't want to leave tracks - like the time I modified my boss' account to report to his boss every time he spent work hours playing video games - and changing the password is rather obvious.

What do you mean by printable list? Do you need it in a file like Ms word...? The command line reference also have in your windows help file (windows 2000). You can check it without access to the internet.

You could use the following batch file to dump the output of dos help into a manual. Once you have the file, there's a little cleanup to do, since some of the original lines from help wrap, feeding some unexpected words to the help command. Type 'help' at the command prompt to see what I mean.
I would also use search and replace to put a newline character everywhere I see the separator line.

Hey guys,
Im looking to get a laptop after xmas and after a lot of thought have narrowed the choice down to 3. Anyone have any thoughts, opinions or use either the Asus W1000na, Toshiba Qosmio F10/100 or the Toshiba Qosmio G10/G00? Any good/bad experiences with them? Im in Australia and all 3 models have just been released. Asus is about $3500AUD, Toshiba F10 is about $4500AUD and G10 is about $5500AUD. Thanks

your not choosing between the same category of laptops, there's a $2000 difference between them.
what do the $5500 machine offer more than the $3500 one ?
depending on your needs, I would go for the one that either offer the best performance right not, or one that can be upgraded easilly in the future.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to set the desktop color in C#. I saw you can use the SetSysColors function in C++, but the parameters don't seem work for C#. If anyone knows how to do this I'd be very appreciative!
Thanks,

Hi, I found that the following command
NET USE lptX: \\print_server_name\printer_share_name where X is the port number.
is use to connect from windows 3.x and OS/2 operating system to use the printer on the print server. I have two computer in my lab both are windows 2000 pro. The first computer have the printer and share on the network. Then I use the second printer to connect and get the share resource (printer) from the first computer. I know that to use the printer over the network I have to add the printer via printer wizard, but I don't do that. I want to use the command line instead. Then I use the following command:
NET USE lpt1: \\pro\hpdj840c
Then it return the information that the command is completed successfully. So I return to control panel to check the printer, but I could not see any printer display in the printer folder. I wonder why I could not see it, because I alread found that the command was sucessfully. Does anyone have any idea about that????
