Hi,
I am wiriting a program in visual basic for reading pdf file. I am able to open pdf file but i am loosing all bold,italic,underline text. it appears as a simple text.
Is there any dll or ocx by which i can open a pdf file with all underline,italic,bold text?

Need to syncronize a local folder with a source folder (either from CD or company server by LAN/internet connection as chosen by the user). The idea is that the user's laptop should contain exact same files as the source on CD or server.

I don't yet know how to handle it.

Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.

hi team

i'm using VB.NET 2002 with DB sql server 2000 to build an application with arabic interface , so

when i start my project , the default language is English and i convert to arabic by keyboard so i want to pass this step and start directly with arabic, and when i closed the project return to windows language(English).

i know there is namespace in framework do this task but how.....

please anyone help me as soon as possible

Speed:
I am totally surprised and excited by the speed of SourceAnyWhere. For Get, Checkout and other operations, SourceAnyWhere can
be up to 40+ times faster than SourceOffSite and VSS Remoting.

Stability:
SourceAnyWhere never has any problem in the whole test.

VSS Remoting has difficulty to add files.

SourceOffSite has several problems when it comes to stability. It fails often when I try to add big files. The big problem of SourceOffSite is cancel. There is no cancel support in IDE integration. After a cancel operation in Add, Checkin, Checkout or Get in SourceOffSite Explorer, the CPU usage of SourceOffSite server goes up to almost 100% and can not come down, unless the server is restarted.

Security:
What makes SourceAnyWhere unique is the password policy.
All the products use 128-bit cryptography.
SourceOffSite and SourceAnyWhere use BlowFish.
VSS Remoting uses HTTPS.

VSS Feature Support:
Weakness and strengths equally exist in them three.

Usability:
SAW is the best. All the Windows of SAW is in Win32 style. It can detect if a file is changed automatically.

Diff/Merge
In File Diff (2-way)/File Merge (3-way), SourceAnyWhere and SourceOffSite run neck and neck; VSS Remoting has a low
performance

IDE Integration:

Hi,

My VB6 app needs to store current IE security settings, change them to the program reqmt and at program exit, return back to original settings.

Best way to do it ? Does the same apply when I upgrade to VB.NET ?

The best way to do it is not at all!

Changing the security settings is a VERY BAD IDEA! As a Administrator, I can tell you that if your caught changing secuirty settings, I'll uninstall your application in a heartbeat and trash the installation CD's.

Also, your app will not be able to change the settings on some machines because of Policies. On top of that, on some machines, security settings are global, not user-based. Changing system wide settings on someones machine is NEVER recommended, for the above reason.

Thanks for your reply. Well, yes generally that would be the case.

But here, my clients would like to have a smooth presentation in IE rather than face messages like 'this not allowed, that not allowed' in the middle of their presentation (of mostly flash pages). Any ideas ?

This is something your going to have to take up with the LAN Administrators. If the Local Intranet, or whatever zone this content is coming from, security settings are too strict to allow running plugins, the only course of action you have is to talk to the LAN Administrators and see if they'll relax the security settings for that zone.

If your clients found out that your application modified their security settings, and they happened to get hit by some malware because of it, you'll open yourself up to a HUGE liability lawsuit.

Thanks for the speedy reply Dave.

The app I am working on will be installed on laptops not on the LAN. They will have the presentation material on the laptop (and these needs to be updated/synchronised maybe once a week from a central server - another topic posted about this - how to synchronise folders over the net).

Provided we make it clear to the clients the risks involved, how about can I go to change the settings ? And I'll have to revert back to old settings again once the presentation is over and program is closed.

If you're running the presentation entirely from the local machine, what's the problem? IE will show a sequence of pages, Flash/Shockwave and all, with no problems if it is launched from the local machine. You'll be running under the Local Intranet zone.

I'm still standing by this. You cannot go around changing the security settings in your app. In every corporate and government environment I've been in for the last 10 years, especially on laptops, the security settings are usually set by Group Policy and cannot be changed by the user anyway. You simply cannot rely on this method to let your app work.

Again, you have to let the LAN Admins, or whoever is responsible for security on the laptop, make the appropriate changes to security. They then bear the entire brunt of opening security holes, not you.

Besides, if you app crashes in the middle of the presentation, how are you going to put the security back the way it was?
