i want to include the installation of .net framework and msde along with my application(vb.net),
sothat in one click i want to install my application + msde + .net framework.
the o.s. of my target machines vary from win 98 to win xp
i tried with a vb script added in the custom action which will run the shell command to run
the msde setup. it is giving an error "Another Installation already in progress..." when i tried the
installation in Win 98 machine. I tried the same process in an Win XP machine which is giving
the error that the script cannot be run.

It can't be done from inside your application's .MSI. Since only one .MSI installation can run at any one time, you'll have to write your own Setup (not in a .NET managed lanugage!) to detect for and launch the appropriate installs.
But, this already exists. Search the web for "Setup Bootstrap". There's examples here on Code Project and on GotDotNet.com.

When I try the webservice sample code "hello world" in the Visual studio .net 2003, I seem always have problem on authetication or authoraztion. I just remove the "'" according to the explanation in the comment to change serveral line of comment into code. and Press F5 to debug it . or try http://localhost/webservice1/webservice1.asmx in the brower.
At first, I got an error "Access denied". I thought it may be ananymous access from ASPNET account or IUSR-XXX need administrator authorization. I put them into administrator group. But it does not work. I also put debugger users group and VS developer groups have administrator authorization. It does not work. I got some other server-side error as "The Web server reported the following error when attempting to create or open the Web project located at the following URL". I also change some setting on dedault web site of IIS as application protection to Low and put ASPNET account or IUSR-XXX, debugger users group and VS developer groups all have administrator authorization . But I do not know why. As the explanation in the help or book, it should not be so difficult.
My environment: window 2000 server, IIS 5.0 Visual studio .Net 2003.
My question is for the simpliest webservice. If i only try in the IDE, what
do I have to set?

I'm wondering if a component is available that essentially will write basic classes for a user. Example the user provides the component with a database connection string and table name and the property class can be created based off that information. Additionally it would be nice if basic Get, Insert, Update, and Delete stored procedures could be created for the selected table. Does anyone know of a component that can do this?

I was discussing this possibility with a co worker just yesterday. Personally, I hate it. What would be the use of such a system ? How long would you use it before you stopped checking the code to make sure you got what you asked for ?

This type of component would make developing the datalayer quicker. Note that I'm not asking for a component that tries to do everything for the developer just a simple datalayer designer. I will review all the code that the component creates thus that isn't an issue.

hello everyone..
i'd like to ask.. is it possible to create a vb6 application that can connect to a database which is online.. in a server, for example, and get data from it, and save it to a database in the hard drive of the program's pc?
how can this be done if it's possible? i'm just quite puzzled, because i was also not allowed to use ASP to be the bridge between the vb program and the onlne database..
any help would be appreciated. thank you all for your time.

It's opened just like any other database on any other server. The connection string might be a little different, depending on what kind of database your connecting to. So long as the server is visible on the Internet, there shouldn't be much of a problem. But, noone in their right mind should be hooking an SQL Server directly to the Internet. There's always some kind of other server in the way that should be doing all the database work.

umm.. could you give me an example?
let's say i am on a pc, and i want to connect to the database in http://www.myjobseekers.com and the database is in the folder http://www.myjobseekers.com/db
i will be using Visual Basic 6.0, and i will connect to the database which is an MS Access database..
how will the connection string be made then?

Hi,
I want to open a word document as read-only programmatically yet I get a "Open as read only"-dialog if the file is allready open.
I need to turn off all kind of messages, warnings, alerts because I using the application in the background and so nothing should be visible
I set :
Documents.Open FileName:="d.doc", ConfirmConversions:=False, ReadOnly:= True
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
and yet I get the stupid message
Can anyone help on this one ??
Even better would bee to turn off all dialogs

1) Add an ImageList control to the form that has a blank image, and one with an arrows image.
2) Create a Label control beneath the progress bar for each step you want to display. Set the ImageList property to the ImageList control, and set the ImageIndex for each Label to the index of the blank image (since none will be checked initially).
3) Each time you move between steps, load the blank image back into the Label of the step you just completed, then load the arrow image into the current step. You do this by setting the Label.ImageIndex property to the index of the correct image from the ImageList.

hi.. how can i access the folders of additional ms exchange accounts with outlook automation? it always gives me the default folder which is my inbox but i want to retrieve the e-mails from the other e-mail accounts.......i've already setup those and there's no need for a password to open them.. hope u can help me.. thanks

I write application for loading many image to listview.
It run very good when images have about < 1500 files.
When images have more than 1500 file then system has this exception.
Please tell me the solotion to solves this problem.

The system has a limited number of handles available. It looks like you just bumped up against one of those limits.
And, why on earth would you put over 1500 images in an ImageList?

I Want a Form that is Maximized at startup and MaximizeBox = False
with a FormBorderStyle = FixedSingle
Is it possible ?
(Because after apply these properties, I can move the Form from the title bar)

Yes only in VB6 you could set the form.movable=False
In VB.Net there is no property to the set the movable state.

There is no easy way to accomplish this. A keydown message is the same as any other keydown message, regardless of which keyboard it comes from. There's just no data to look at to tell which keyboard it came from.

hello, I have a problem to output multiple value to one column in datagrid in vb.net.
here is the column name in the database table
street_number1, street_name1, street_number2, street_name2, street_number3, street_name3, street_number4, street_name4, street_number5, street_name5
In the vb application, bind to two colunm(street#,street name) in datagrid. how can I show them like below?
entity_id street# street name

3 XXX
4 XXX
5 XXX

Do an onitemdatabound handler for a label or something, then in code pull out the two values and format them.
