Use a simple API function InternetGetConnectedState, to return a boolean variable.
using System ;
using System.Runtime ;
using System.Runtime.InteropServices ;
public class InternetCS
{
//Creating the extern function...
[DllImport("wininet.dll")]
private extern static bool InternetGetConnectedState( out int Description, int ReservedValue ) ;
//Creating a function that uses the API function...
public static bool IsConnectedToInternet( )
{
int Desc ;
return InternetGetConnectedState( out Desc, 0 ) ;
}
}

We are in a process to create a deployment process (deploy activex controls, com+ dlls, .net dlls). Because we have ~30 servers to install our code to. We are thinking of couple of approaches. I have tested an application that will register all these components on all the servers e.g. use comadmin to register the dlls in COM+ services (remotely), same with the registry files. But how to register activex controls and .net dll that go to COM+ services? Has anybody seen this issue?
Thanks,

I have a Windows application and I was doing something that I thought to be very simple. The ONLY change that I made was:
<br />
[STAThread]<br />
static void Main() <br />
{<br />
Form1 someForm = new Form1();<br />
someForm.Visible = false;<br />
Application.Run(someForm);<br />
}<br />
This didnt work. I dont know what I am doing wrong; I would have thought that that was a pretty good way to make it invisble but Im wrong.
Thx,
Jim

You need to make changes to your form in your onload or constructor...not in the Main.

Thanks a lot, but sadly I tried that too with no result
More exactly, this was the code that I used:
<br />
public Form1()<br />
{<br />
this.Visible = false;<br />
InitializeComponent();<br />
}<br />
I also tried
<br />
public Form1()<br />
{ <br />
InitializeComponent();<br />
this.Visible = false;<br />
}<br />
|
|
|
|
|
|
Application.Run(Form f) sets the form's Visible attribute to True internally when it's starting the message loop for the form, so your form gets displayed regardless of what you set Visible to.
To hide the form from the user you can either set its size to (0,0) or move the form off-screen (or both).

Thanks, I didnt know about that side effect! This program is going to be run as a scheduled task, how do I go about stopping it from stealing focus?
Thanks a lot,
Jim

You don't have to show a form for your program to run and perform its tasks.
Take a look at the other Application.Run() overloads, that could be the cleaner solution.
Otherwise you'd have to p/invoke ShowWindow() , there you can specify to show a window without giving it focus.

Good post, I tested this out after posting to him earlier and saw that my suggestion wouldn't help. I was curious as to why it wouldn't hide as well.

Hi!!
Does anyone know how I can use a normal image as a cursor?
I have seen I can load a .cur file, but do you know if I can do it from a .gif or .jpg?
If not, do you know how I can create a .cur file from another kind of image file?
Thanks.

I have an app which communicates with a SharePoint server, and one of the things it does is uploads files to the SharePoint server using a HttpWebRequest.
However I have found that this doesn't work when the file being uploaded is bigger than about 2mb and either of the following conditions apply
- The user is at home and is using VPN to connect to the newtwork
- The server is hosted on an ordinary broadband connection
The request throws an exception saying 401, unauthorized.
Using Fiddler to examine the http request going back and forth, I found that the exception is somewhat incorrect, and is actually referring to the first request of a pair (the first doesn't supply username/password, server asks for authorization, the second supplies the username/password). What has actually happened is that the server has just closed the connection and no reason is supplied as far as I can tell. It *might* even be a gateway timeout, but I very rarely even get a reply from the server under these conditions
Using a Win32 app I have for testing things like this, I found that WinINet has no problems putting the file onto the server.
I'm a little baffled as to what is happening here. Has anyone else had something like this or have any solutions?
Dave

Hello.
I have encountered a strange issue. I have a form consisting of some tabpages within a tabcontrol. On the tabs, different user controls contain text boxes and combo boxes that are data bound. My problem is that navigating between the controls with the Tab key doesn't work.
Combo boxes: When the type is set to "DropDownList", the Tab key is ignored, but when the type is set to "DropDown", it works like supposed.
Text boxes: Treat Tab key like an input and tabs the text in the control.
I have only my own controls, derived from the windows classes (e.g. ComboBox and TextBox), the property TabStop is set to True, and they have Tabindices positive, non-zero values.
What could be wrong? Especially the difference in behaviour between the two types of combo boxes really confuses me.
Thank you
- Niklas
