Well, I have to say that it has been a long long time for me to experience slow webiste and very slow file download.
I was wondering IIS+ASP is just not good enough to handle the users of codeproject.com?

IIS+ASP is more then capable of running a site like this and more. ASP.Net is even more capable.

..is it just me, or do others find tihs site painfully slow? It's a shame, because otherwise it's one of the best around... I am on a fast broadband connection but usually wait 15-20 seconds for a page to load - sometimes, they don't load at all and I am left looking at a blank screen. If I then hit the STOP button in my browser I will usually see half the page appear... I am using the latest IE6 on XP all up to date etc and have no problems on other sites...
cheers

It depends on the time of day, some blind luck, and the current phase of the moon.
Normally first thing in the morning (GMT) the site is nice and fast, slowing gradually over the day till sometimes it will be unbearably slow around 10pm. It should be noted though that in recent months the speed of the site has improved dramatically.

CodeProject.com is becoming unusably slow on a more regular basis now. What the heck kind of server is the site running on? Is code optimization needed? Lets get this site fixed - its a great resource when it works!

I agree. Sometimes, when I click on an article, It takes a minute or two just waiting to get a response back. Nice site, but it's becoming too slow to use for much of a resource anymore.

I don’t know if this has been suggested, but a chat room would be nice. Either some .Net custom thing or an irc channel for the site would be fine. There is defiantly enough talent to automate administration of such a chat room.

I don't know how long a chat room would alst with all the "please do ym homework for me" questions it would attract, but I would definately like to see some more interviews with leading software companies and the development teams that build our tools, etc, maybe even some where we can submit questions beforehand.

Hi,
When I search for myself (The Lou is the one and only) on the who's who part of the site, I find myself for more then 170.000 times. I can then view myself for then many times and I see no difference for each view.
Can you tell me why I find myself so many times or is something going wrong (maybe by my input)

I'm new to CP so maybe I missed this somewhere, but how do I bookmark a thread from the dicsussion forum?
It seems that "My Bookmarks" section only applies to Articles. After all, you want to be able to bookmark any post on CP - whether it's an article, discussion or some other user contribution.

Good Suggestion

If i remember right the "Messages Posted" text in the user settings page used to be hot and would take you to a list of your messages. This seems to have gone bye-bye.
What is the suggested way of quickly getting back to a message you've posted.

I found it handy.
Not so much to check for my replies, but to follow the thread and see how others replied.
I don't archive CP emails (i do get one on a reply), i leave that to CP.

Hello,
I think that it would be better to set the search between dates in the search comments page to the date of the first post and the current date.
Since the message boards are like an archive, you should not exclude the most dusty part but use it completely...
I know that it takes little effort to change the search dates, but it would be nice if I didn't need to do that.

The strain on the Chris' blood pressure would be suicide. One person does a search for "MFC" without changing the dates and that web server is out of action for half an hour while the database server spits and swears at it.
Two months would be a good one, if you don't find your answer there you can always lengthen it.

It would be cool if you could have a "search code" option that would bring up all projects which include some API call, COM interface, etc. This would require you to process the zip's that get uploaded and then build up a search index for them automatically. But that could be super helpfull.
