I am looking for a book to get started on Pocket PC development using c++
I have used MFC (MSVC6) for quite some time and am beginning to use ATL/WTL. I need to build a Pocket PC companion app to a desktop app we have and am looking for a good book to get me started.
I would also welcome any suggestions on the development environment - I subscribe to MSDN and thus have access to what MS offers. I am thinking starting by supporting Pocket PC 2002 devices and I understand that means the 3.0 version of the development environment.

If you are looking for Pocket PC books on MFC/ATL/WTL, chances are that you are not going to find them.
This book is good: Programming Windows CE.Net (3rd Edition). The title is a little bit misleading, it is essentially a book on Win32 for Pocket PC.
If you know MFC well then why don't you just dive in and come back to CodeProject later when you have problem.

I have come to the same conclusion.
I am thinking not using MFC, and was looking for some examples about databases and synchroning between Mobile and Desktop.
I will take a look at the the book I suggested - I was avoiding books that said .Net as I use Visual Studio 6.

Hello everyone,
I found an articles in msdn which is "Receiving SMS Messages Inside a Managed Application". I download the sample code and run it.This project contains two separte projects "mapirule" and "CaptureSMS". Mapirule was implemented by using embedded Visual C++ 4.0 and CaptureSMS contains managed code only which was implemented by using Visual Studio.NET 2003
When I built mapirule.dll in embedded C++4.0, the error "download file failed" occurred. When I tested the sample code on an emulator and clicked Start IMailRuleClient". Error message "The function is not defined" ("registerServer function). This function is defined in mapirule. How come mapirull.dll can't be loaded? Is there anyone who can give me any suggestion.It's urgent. Thank you veryyyy much.

It may be the platform problem. The target(i.e., PDA) may be running with PPC 2002 or some mismatch might be there.
Once u find ur application compiled successfully, and if the IDE is not registering the dll on PDA, go ahead and copy the dll manually by exploring the PDA dir. Copy it windows dir. of PDA.

I'm developing PocketPC application with Visual Studio.NET 2003, where I show the data from server in Datagrid on PPC. It looks nice if I use default font, but it is too big. So I've reduced the font size to 6, and now it looks very blocky, with jagged edges. I tried many different fonts and sizes (Tahoma, Arial, Times New Roman...), but they are all blocky at small sizes. They look normal in Listbox though, and in all other applications I have on PPC. Am I doing something wrong? I set the font via "Font" property of Datagrid, the PPC I'm using is Dell Axim X50v and I have ClearType enabled.

I would like to develop a a full screen application in Pocket PC. The meaning of "full screen" is the app. will cover the whole physical screen including "Start" button of Windows in PPC.
Sorry, i 'm new to PPC programming. I saw a PPC application in market. Once the PPC is switch on, it will open the app. directly with full screen. Then the user are not able go to windows but only the program itself. The 4 shortcut button is dedicated for the functions of the application.
Thus, the users are no chance to access windows setting, other programs and so on.
they called it as KIOSK mode...is there any sample code inteads of buying "Spb Kiosk Engine".
I tried to search in google but most of the website introduce "Spb Kiosk Engine".
Any API or Library for VB.net for KIOSK? or any sample code?

Try experimenting with SHFullScreen and don't forget to move the windows.

Hi,
I have created a Windows CE application using the wizard; I changed nothing, and deployed the newly built application using the emulator. The main form (Form1, the default title) is displated. I then click the X on the top right corner, expecting the application to close. However, the debugger never reaches the Dispose method... though the application is definitely not shown on the emulator's screen, the debugger still says [Run]...
I assume the application's main window was not destroyed but only hidden, but this is not what I expeced. Is there a way to convince it to go away, and call the Dispose method while doing that?

Hi,
I doing a project using Atmel 89c51 and Keil for programming. In this, one module is to display a 4-digit number using seven segment display and a BCD decoder. I split the number in to separate digits using modulo and division operation. The first digit gets displayed correctly but the other digits are not displayed correctly. For eg: if my no is 0634 it gets displayed as 2704. This is the pseudo code

The problems is that every single thing that i find to control map objects works for windows ce, and my pocket has windows mobile 2003. if someone knows what activex or anything else i can use for manage the map, please tell me. I try to using c# and programming the CEMAPI(by using VC++) in pocket pc 2003 to retrieve
the emails from the pocket pc. But after several days trials, I still
can't get the receipent and the body of the emails(I can only retrieve
the subject of the emails). Do anyone have the same experience as me ? I
just wonder there are system bugs in the pocket pc MAPI.

Hi all,
I p/Invoke a VC++ dll in C#, but there is serious memory leak, how can I fix the memory leakage by the VC++ dll caused by P/Invoke ?
(the leakage seem not come from the internal C++ code inside the dll, so I suspect it come from the loading and unloading of the dll in C#)
