I'm guessing I need Windows 2003 to take advantage of that... I do some server programming so I have found it is just best to run server all the time rather then dual booting, especially since I reboot about once a month..

Hi all,
Does anyone know how to access the hard disk S.M.A.R.T. info under windows? I cant seem to find any info on it at all!
I'm guessing it may be something to do with low level IO requests.
Many thanks

Hi, i will be launching a site on which i will have a birthday reminder service along with some other features. Site is being made with the help of ASP and MSAccess. its birthday reminder service is a bit similar to that of birthdayalarm.com. Now if you go to www.birthdayalarm.com you will notice that when it gives you an option to add birthdays to your list, it allows you to get access to your msn list on that very site..a user just has to enter his msn/yahoo id and password on that site and then it shows his full contact list, and then with just one click it can e-mail all those users in the contact list. I want that kind of a system with which users on my site can have access to their msn and yahoo contact list...after they provide their user id and password. Does someone has any idea on how that thing can be made available on my site...any help would be greatly appreciated as its a really important part of my site. Any help (specially with some detailed instructions) would be greatly appreciated.
thnx

hi,
i have tried it to import it into my application which serves the same purpose as u have told abt ur website... what basically i did was ..
first i exported my contacts to a CSV format...(For outlook or for yahoo)..
u can view this file in excel or notepad.. this shows a comma seperated structure maintained by the yahoo...
read the format and thru asp u can get the contents...
i had done it in VB...
in ur case there is a problem that u want to access an account thru your webpage..
for that maybe u need to get some special privilages to login thru an application into yahoo/msn and then request for the CSV file..
all the best...

hi.. i've been researching for almost a month now regarding applications/ example codes for remote cluster administration for windows 2000 advanced server using asp/vb.net.. but unfortunately, i can't see something that is similar to this one.. hope you can give me some ideas regarding this..
this is my problem:
we want to display on a webpage the current active nodes of clustered servers. for ex we have:
server1a,server1b
server2a,server2b
server3a,server3b
and the current active nodes are server1a, server2b, and server2b..
how can i do that with scripting? asp/vb.net? what objects do i suppose to access? i'm developing remotely from the servers using XP and vs.net..
and also, we want to configure the resources (eg: diskspaces, database, windows services) from the owner (which is the active node)
anyone? please share your ideas.. i'm really frustrated now..
hope you can help me..

I would like to know how depends.exe get the dependency of a module (dll, exe, ...).
|
|
|
|
|
It just processes the INPORTS section of the executable. Any DLLs that are dynamically loaded via LoadModule or GetModuleHandle will not show up in this section.

At runtime, you can use EnumProcesses and EnumProcessModules.
This will let you know of DLL that are currently dynamically loaded by the program (loaded at the time you call EnumProcessModules), which is information you won't get processing the imports section of the EXE file. I am pretty sure that Process Explorer also does something like that, since DLL in the list will be ones the program has loaded but has not necessarily implicitly linked.

Has anyone ever tried to code a piece of software to browse his bank(hsbc for instance) accounts, buy sell stock shares thru this software. This software is not meant to be only with ASP.NET, it can also be built using MFC or any other related libraries of .NET framework or previous Microsoft related libraries. I have got a similar piece of code in Java, however I would like to study its .NET version, what would it be like and what libraries of framework would be used, what methods be called to make a connection to the bank's server, browse accounts and buy and sell stock shares. I am trying to code a non-asp version of it for http://www.hsbc.com.tr/. Does anyone have any idea. I would later automatize my buying and selling thru some technical indicators..
Thank you for any opinions..

Hi,
I am running my site on ASP and SQL at the moment and its basically a fund clearing agent. I would be re-making this application using .NET as I need to now support around 1 million transactions per month. Along with that I was also thinking of making it in such a way that there can be an engine to process payments which could be accessed by a web service. I have also heard about SOA(service oriented architecture) which i think could be a good move for this application but I am not sure whether I would be a best solution. Please suggest me whether these thoughts can make my application better or if there is anything else out there which can serve better in my situation.

have u tried Microsoft's HTML Help Workshop... if not... try it...
its really cool stuff...
all u need to do is to design cool help in HTML format....
u can use whatever OLE objects u want in the HTML files..
then add use HTML Help Workshop to convert it into a CHM file (compiled HTML File)...
u can find the software in [http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/htmlhelp/html/vsconhh1start.asp[^]">^]
the same is used to develop MSDN Help.
if u have already tried it then...
go for a flash help system...
that would satisfy all ur needs of good design for a help system.
all the best..

hello, i found this site here reading around about [smp] and [scaling] apps. great site i may add, it helped me realize that an idea i have might atleast be possible. although im sure not a new idea by far but here it goes...
i do alot of video encoding to different formats like divx and avi and i also have 3 computers here at home. i just built a new one which is a lga775 3.2ghz on an asus p5ad2 premium.
i have one other computer connected to my asus box which is a athlon 2800xp+ i have it connected via a crossover cable and my asus has dual lan.
anyways what i am wondering is if it is possible to make the athlon cpu scale a program like VirtualDub or Canopus pro ? i want to be able to get that processors resources in on the encoding to see if i can reduce encoding times or mabye even pick up a few fps encode time.
i am running windows xp pro on both computers and i read somewhere i think this op system was scalable ? i dunno...
thanks for any help,
steve.

What you're looking for is called a cluster.
For the answers:
1. No, Windows XP does not offer support cluster environments
2. Software must specifically be programmed to support cluster environments.
3. Clusters built on Windows are tremendously expensive to be used at home. If you want to create a cluster at home, your only hope is Linux. You can build a Beowolf cluster, which will be a lot of work if you don't know Linux, or you have now an excelent option that is ClusterKnoppix[^].
The main advantage of ClusterKnoppix is that you don't even need to install it in your disks - just boot the OS CD, and a new node (computer) is added to the cluster.
Now, you'll only need to find a video encoder with cluster support for Linux. There's one called "dvd::rip" with such support, it should work, but I never used it.
HTH.

os - do you mean Operating System? Need lot more info then.
