Why are you doing this ? If you know there are four, why can't you put them on your page ?
I *think* you need to overload 'LoadViewState' and create them first in there. TO be honest, it's a while since I did this, but I recall it was very ugly stuff.

Hi,
Actually there are 9 static text boxes and 2 buttons one for more text boxes and one to navigate to other page. more button will produce these dynamic textboxs. to be honest sir, before sending code to u i have deleted some lines of codes actually the page contaions more.
Using LoadViewState means like this ?:
Session("t") = CType(ViewState(z3.text),String)
or
Session("t") = ViewState("z3")
One More Thing, why i couldnt get with the help of Cookies? its permenent in comp. till u remove right? Why i get only date and time of creation not expected result ?

No, LoadViewState is a function you need to overload in the class. To be honest, I'm stretching my memory, you should google on LoadViewState dynamic control or something and see what articles you find.

How is a cookie going to know what is in viewstate ?

As I write this I am currently looking on my own to figure out how you print a file directly. I want to be able to just specify a file, and have it print directly to the default printer. I can write text, and print. I just can't read a file, and print.
I have newly converted to Vb.net from VB 6.0. I was an intermediate VB programmer at best. I am a bit intimidated by .net. It seems to have lost its simplicity that VB 6.0 has. be that as it may I am trying to get over the learning curve, and become comfortable with VB.Net. Any help on my current dellima is appricated.
Thanks,
Eric

*grin* I am not going to comment on this...
So the problem is that you need to read the file, the printing part is under control ? The System.IO namespace has everything you need to read a file. If it's a text only file, I believe there's a TextReader class, or something similar. There are certainly plenty of examples about.

I have developed an application in asp which will be installed on a server running Windows OS and used by the client pda running Linux OS through localhost.
Now the problem is that I have some reports to be printed using the printer installed on the server. The printer can't be installed on the pda ( due to some reasons , I dont know why. but this is the answer I got from the client)
I tried to search regarding this but was of no use. One of the solutions which I got was of using AddWindowsPrinterConnection or AddPrinterConnection. but according to my knowledge the client machine should also have windows operating system for that.
The another way which I got is writing an activex dll. The file will be streamed from the client side to the server side and then the activex dll (registered on server) will print the page using the printer installed on the server.
Can anybody suggest me the best method to be used under the given situation. Should I write an activex dll and if yes then can anybody provide me some links which can help me for writing it as I haven't written any dll till date. and if not then what will be the best solution.
Please help me as its a bit urgent.
Thanks in advance.

i would like to know whether i can use VB.NET on Windows XP Professional Edition OS, and wat database server should i use ?? MSSQL Server or MySql ??
|
|
|
|

Yes, you can. And what DBMS you use is a matter of preference and requirements. If you want built-in support in VB.NET, use SQL Server.

thanks man...
well.. now we are using Windows 2000 Advanced Server as OS, and i ll be using MSSQL Server as database...
i would like to know whether we can keeb links (path to the files) in the database and the actual files(the audio, video, text doc, PDFs etc.) somewhere else ?? i mean in different directory on the server machine ??
|
|
|
|
|
Yes. Just store the RELATIVE path to the file. And by that, I mean relative to a known root directory. For example, your server might have a folder off the root of the D: drive called Media that has a bunch of folders under it organizing the various files you're storing:
D:\
Media
Video
PDF
Docs
Instead of storing the full path to the files, like "D:\Media\Video\Footage.mpeg", store just the relative path to the root of your media storage folder "\Video\Footage.mpeg". This give you the flexibility to store your data on any drive and place the root in any folder, making it easier to transfer to another server or move to another drive later on.

thanks again..
and how to make the selection by the client user dynamic ??
i mean if the user has selected v1.dat then the dynamic url in windows media player shud be invoked as "\Media\Videos\v1.dat"
so how to achieve this url invocation dynamically ??
|
|
|
|
|
Well, that changes EVERYTHING. If all your doing is serving up files like this, then you don't need SQL Server for any part of this project. If you're going to use URL's and just server up files, like opening a docuiment in Word, then all you need is a normal file server and maybe a web server to go along with it. There's nothing special here that requires any programming.
What's the point of SQL server then if you're not going to use any client software to access the database? Media Player sure can't access the SQL server for it content...

Mr. Dave.. the client ll be having the VB.NET interface from which he ll be accessing the contents (audio, video, text, PDFs etc) located on the server...
as i told u before only, not having much idea abt VB.net and MSSQL Server...
so i would like to know whether the transaction as i told above ll be possible or not ?? as we ll be using Windows Media Player, Microsoft Word and the respective components for the desired contents...
and once again..thanks for ur ideas n info

In one solution explorer at vb.net, I have three projects, how can I pass parameters from one project to other?
Lisa

I assume that each of the projects is a standalone process? (ie: exe)
Theer are TONS of ways to do IPC (Inter Process Communication) .NET adds some..
IP Sockets
Remoting
Files
Pipes
(ok... that's not TONS but you get the idea )
It all really depends upon what your environment is, which of these methods makes more sense to you in your problem scheme, etc...
Most are quite simple to impliment...

Do variables in the same equation as a not equals statement "<>" have to be a certain type of variable?
|
|
|
|
|
They have to evaluate to the same type on both sides of the "<>" operator, but they don't have to be of any particular type.
Describe your problem and post a code sample for a better response.

In VB, the variables on either side of the = (comparison) or <> operator cannot be declared as class or structure types. For class types use "x Is y" or "Not x Is y". For structure types use the Equals method.

I have a database on an AS/400 machine that I need to run some SQL statements against in my VB.NET application. I currently have Client Access V5R3, so I know that I have .NET compatibility.
Does anyone have an example of connecting to an AS/400 database, executing a SQL command and filling a dataset?

There is an article here on cp about that:

Hi
I am new to programing could use some help
I have a form with a list box and 5 textbox's. i want to make the textbox's names into an array
i have tryed this code
Dim mycount as long
for mycount = 1 to listbox1.items.count
textbox(mycount).text = listbox1.items.item(mycount)
next mycount
thanks

Assuming the array is the listbox list, you were not clear about this:
The first thing that is wrong with your code is that you have textbox and listbox on the wrong side of the equation. Whatever is to the left of an = will take the value of what is to the right of the =. So with your code, the textbox.text would take the value of the listbox item.
Next, you probably want textbox.name rather than the text, unless the name is really shown in the textbox.
If you are adding the textbox names to the listbox, you need to use the add method of the listbox, listBox1.Items.Add().
