yup.. it's fairly simple...
take a look at the documentation for System.Web.Mail
here's a c# example:
<br />
using System.Web.Mail;<br />
...<br />
SmtpMail.SmtpServer = "relayserveraddress";<br />
MailMessage msg = new MailMessage();<br />
msg.From = "from@youraddress.com";<br />
msg.To = "to@them.com";<br />
msg.bcc = "bcc@bcc.bcc";<br />
msg.cc = "cc@cc.cc";<br />
msg.Subject = "test message";<br />
msg.Body = "this is the body of your message<br>Formatted with HTML";<br />
msg.BodyFormat = MailFormat.html;<br />
<br />
SmtpMail.Send(msg);<br />
That's all there is to it. Your code has to have relay access to the smtp server.

Use the System.Web.Mail.MailMessage object. This is an example in C# of how to use it, but it should easily convert to VB.NET:
MailMessage mail = new System.Web.Mail.MailMessage();
mail.From = ***sender's email address***;
mail.To = ***reciever's email address;
mail.Subject = ***Subject***;
mail.Body= ***some message***;
System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.SmtpServer = ***your email server***;
System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.Send(mail);
You can .cc, .bcc, and .attachments, as well.
Hope this helps

Hi,
Is it possible usig the VS.net setup wizard to have files install to the c:\ root.
Thanks
|
|
|
|
|
Yes you can add a Custom Folder that points to C:\, but it is generally not a good idea to install files to the root drive folder.

First of all i wish to thank to this site....
I got a clear idea about Inserting relational data using DataSet and DataAdapter in SQL Server....
But the sample given here for MSAccess is not working, I cant create the Event Handler for solving the Autonumber column issue...
If anyone have the solution for this plz replay me....
Plz refere this address http://www.codeproject.com/cs/database/relationaladonet.asp
Thanks in Advance

Hi everybody,
I have a utility to which i have to add features. But before that I have to convert the application from VB 6 to VB.NET....any known resources where to get help from? Am getting a lot of errors after migration.

I haven't seen any. It's pretty much going down the error list and handling the cases by hand that the conversion tool couldn't handle on its own. Most of the time, you'll be rewriting entire sections of code to convert it to something compatible in .NET.

Hello,
I am using Date Time Picker Control in my application but i m facing a bit problem here while saving in retreiving NULL. how can i change the display of control for nothing if i dont have to save any date. control display is date format only
|
|
|
|
|
Your query is not explaining exactly what you need. or may be my understanding is preety poor. any ways I guess you need to build the custom control to handle it properly. as you need to insert nothing when user writes nothing. and on the customer control give one small popup button to show a date control for user ease...
hope this will help.
cheers......

Hi,
I need a solution to the following problem,consider below code
public sub form_load()
populateTree()
end sub
Here populateTree() function takes about 30 seconds(function is nothing but loading data from database to a treeView control), until then user cannot see the screen. Can any one help how to write that code using threads or if there is any other way,so that user can see the screen immedaitely.

VB6 doesn't support threads. You might want to add DoEvents() to flush the pending messages.

Thanks for your reply Dan_P,
I dont think it solves my problem, i will give another example-
let us consider there are three buttons in a form. when first button is clicked it starts doing long job and control will not return to application. thats the problem, but i need other two buttons as pause, stop. but when application stops responding how can i click pause or stop that job. Actually i dont know how doEvents work, if it is really usefull here please suggest me how.
Thank you,

well I guess if it is feasible for you to move in dot net then dont wait for a single minute even. but if it is not then there is no way out of this. as Visual Basic 6 is working in a linear motion and it will not do any thing else until unless it will finish the line of codes under button 1. but some thing might help you this way..... under button 1 suppose if you have a loop of for then inside the loop check the mouse position and from mouse position you can stop or pause .
if you can explain the process under button 1 then it might be possible to suggest you any thing more better..
cheers.......

Multi-threading in VB6 is possible, but difficult to control. On top of that, the IDE won't debug a multithreaded app. If you create a second thread, then your app stops in the debugger, for whatever reason, you'll crash the IDE instantly!
What complicates your situation even more is the fact that you want to modify a control on the form from the thread. You can't do that, not even in VB.NET. The control can only be modified by the thread that created it. Now you have to worry about marshalling data acrossed thread boundries.
There are just no good articles out there anymore on the subject in VB6. There's a ton in VB5 SP2 though. When VB6 came out, it actually made it more difficult to do multi-threading! Go figure...
VB.NET makes this task almost trivial. Even if you only need multi-threading in your app, it's worth the upgrade price to go .NET.

Although it is possible to multi-thread in VB6, it takes a significant effort. You have to create threads in an ActiveX EXE, you can share data between apartments using Shared Memory Maps, etc.
But a much simpler approach to your problem is available from most ADO providers - most providers support asynchronous fetching of a recordset in multiple record batches.

I dont understand what is the problem in getting this information. Do you need some one to write code for you or you need to know from where to start.
well to start you have the date and time. search for them in the file and pick the data accordingly. and after that put them in excel file. the functions for strings are
1. Instr
2. Mid
3. strings.left
4. Strings.right

I need to write out a text file to a users "My Documents" folder from a VB.NET Windows Application. Has anyone else done this and could you help me get started?
Thank you,
|
|
|
|
|
Environment.SpecialFolder will give you the path to the My Documents folder.
This is a C# example, but remove the semicolons and it should work in VB.NET.
// create a writer and open the file
TextWriter tw = new StreamWriter("date.txt");
// write a line of text to the file
tw.WriteLine(DateTime.Now);
// close the stream
tw.Close();

I have several dataset tables that I want to export directly into my sql server as tables (or as inserts to tables).
Assumptions:
I have the dataset tables populated (I do)
I have a valid (open) connection to SQL Server (I do)
In order to transfer/export/update the sql db tables do I need to bind this dataset to a vb.data grid control, or dataadapter, etc?
Or is there an easy (relative) command that I can utilize within the System.Data.SQL Client (or other namespace) that I can use to get these tables to populate in my SQL Environment?
Thanks,
mtognetti.
