use the split function if u are having any seprator in the string.
otherwise use mid function to get the first 4 numbers and convert it using cint function. if any problem then explain in detail about string.

Ok,
Well I use it in a excell.
I have a cell with numbers, but you can enter how many numbers you wish but I only need the fist 4.
So that I want to do is to get that value with the 4 fist numbers and make it in to a int. That is what I need to do.
So how can I do that?

save the value of string of cell in a variable.
suppose i choose mystr variable.
i choose myint variable for the int value.
use the mid function as
mystr = mid(mystr,1,4)
where 1 is start and 4 is length of the required string. then use cint function as:
myint = cint(mystr)
thats all!

Hi Folks
Wrote a vba set of macros about 2 years ago to manage the leave and holiday needs of 62 employees. Have recentley started to revamp it with custom user forms and made it more secure with a security log in page etc. At the moment i have a routine (62routines in total) for each employee that selects the leave sheet that corresponds to them, the routine then moves the data to a calculation sheet works out the new totals then copies the new total and a line of cells with date info total used etc. back on to their leave sheet sheet. I am now trying to simplify by using one routine but totally stuck. What i need to do is search cell A1 on sheets 4 to 66 and if the name is the same as the one held on the calculation sheet(Derived from the user form) activate this sheet to copy the accrued hours across to the calculation sheet. The calculation routines work ok when the accrued hours are taken from the individuals sheet. I then have to re select the individuals leave sheet and copy a line of coresponding cells to the leave sheet and the new leave total. Been trying to write a Loop keep geting type mismatch errors. We may be expanding in the near future with up to 30 more drivers being employed so do not fancy writing another 30 routines.

Hi all,
i am developing a pocket pc application where in there are multiple forms.
the problem is i am not able to show hide forms.
for eg: by default first form is displayed there is a button called as next clicking on that will open next form. But the now problem is when i click on next button nothing happens and if i close the first form then it displays the second form.
please help me in solving this problem.

Hi All,
I am using Visual Basic 6...
I have an activex control, i make for it a cab file and load it within an aspx page.
I include in this cab a dll(i use it in the code sometimes), but this dll is not always exists on the client machine that calls this page. and i don't want to install it if not exists already...
The problem that if the dll not exists, the activex will not be loaded and x appears instead of it in the page..
I need to load the activex and run it properly in both cases the dll exists or not.
i don't know how to do this...and i don't know if there is a solution for this problem..
any comment will be very helpfull

Hi! I need to stop/start running services on local computer through VB.NET. My old application in VB6 uses OpenService() defined in advapi32.dll and runs fine. When I migrated the code to VB.NET, OpenService() gives trouble. Any sussgestions on how to make OpenService work?

Look at the ServiceController class in System.ServiceProcess. You can get a list of services with the GetServices method. There are also methods to start and stop services.

assigned a value in a textbox in javascript in ASP.Net. when fectching the value from the code behind in VB.Net it shows blank. My textBox is server side control.& it is alerting value in the javascript after assigment. what should i do to get the value at code behind??

hello friends,
this is my first message on this site.
i have got a problem regarding threads in VB.
i can start a thread and perform the operation of copying file from source to destination.
but when ever the copying was completed then i got the error and my application is closed.
can you tell me how to end the thread.
i have tried the TerminateThread, CloseHandle, ExitThread, GetExitCodeThread API calls already.
may be i am using these calls in wrong way. can any body suggest what should i do?

This can depend on how you create your thread. If you are using the normal ThreadStart-Thread-Start way then the function you gave the ThreadStart object just have to complete for the thread to be finished. If this happens no other call is needed to make the thread terminate.
Hint: That the threat is terminated can be seen in the console window (at least in Visual Studio) where a message is written which indicates what thread has finished (at least if you gave the thread an explicit name).
That your application is crashing is most highliy just because you terminate the thread by some sort of call. When you do this a ThreadAbortException will be fired in your thread. If you dont have an error handler in your thread function no one is able to catch this exception and thus the application crashes.

If you read the GDI+ articles here on CP, the GDI+ library is fully supported in VB.NET. To do something like MSProject, you need to impliment classes to draw different shapes, and then create a shapes collection, iterating through it in your paint message.
