you must work with low level WaveOut and WaveIn API,s
High level Functions Like SndPlaySound And Play Sound
are not suitable for your Purpose.

I am using WaveIn and WaveOut classes for recording and playback.. which allow me to play PCM formatted wave files.. How do i play compressed files.. Wave files store data in RIFF format.. u-Law seems to used AU..
Is it possible to program playback for such files ..

in one of the structures you pass to wave out(i don't

Law , DPCM, ....

I am using WAVEFORMATEX structure.. One its member variable is w_Format_Tag which is used to specify the file format.. It works only for two formats.. WAVE_FORMAT_PCM and one more but not for U-law or A-law.. I checked it..
Thank you

I’ve got a simple question which is hard to believe doesn’t have a simple answer.
Up until now I’ve been using Visual Studio 6.0 which has a nice wizard for doing housework for me. I’m looking in vs7.0 for something similar and can’t find what I need.
In particular, I have a dialog box and I want to do some initialization. Up until now, I’d call the wizard, choose OnInitDialog and the wizard would override the base class call, and in the function place a call to the base class function as well.
This is all very convenient and it is hard for me to believe that I now have to do this manually. Still, as much as I’ve poked around, I don’t see how to get some wizard to do the housework for me.
Any suggestions would be appreciated (not just for this function, but for the future as well). I’m sure it must be there somewhere.
Thanks,
Ilan

One way of doing this would be to create a window using CreateWindow then at the appropriate times use ShowWindow or SetWindowPos to show or hide the window.
If you want it positioned in the lower right corner of the screen you'll need to know how big the screen area is, use SystemParametersInfo with the SPI_GETWORKAREA flag to get that. You'll also need to know how big your window is GetWindowRect will tell you that. Then use that information with SetWindowPos to position the window where you want it. Don't forget that the taskbar isn't always at the bottom of the screen.
You could also try using a Dialog window.
Have a look at the relevant pages in MSDN and that should get you started.
Good luck.

I want to draw a curve which is "parallel" to another curve/spline. I developed an algo. and also tried it using GDI. It works ok but it fails in the bends which have a higher curvature.
Note that I do not want an offset. The first algo. that I developed was using the perpendicular distance from a line (using 2 consiculive points on the original curve)method.
The other method I used was utlising the GraphicsPath::Widen() method.
But sadly they are not perfect.
Please suggest if any of u guys know any algo. or any GDI method to achive this.

There's NO perfect method available.
Girl, why dont you try some OpenGL or directx??
Maybe, it has some method that will help you.
