The company I work for has been using MS Visual Interdev for several years for ASP Web Development and love the way it lets you work on a website. However we've been running into the limitations of VI in reguard to HTML formatting, XHTML and ADA Compliance so we're looking for a new tool.
Here are all of the features I would love to see in a single IDE. Can anyone recommend some IDEs that will meet some or all of these?
Ideal Features:
-Syntax Highlighting for HTML, XML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, ASP.net(C# and VB.net), and PHP
-Code Completion and validation for all of the above
-Allows working directly on a remote website via FTP or FrontPage Extensions. Opening the site should provide some sort of site explorer listing files on the site with the ability to open a file, edit it, and save it back to the server.
-WYSIWYG HTML Editor is NOT required or desired
-Must not modify, reformat, or rewrite any content entered into a file
-Support pre-compiling ASP.net code-behind pages
-Support source control integration with Subversion when working on local copies of source code (such as doing .net development)
-Run on Windows, Mac, and Linux
-Does NOT have an obscene per developer/workstation licensing cost
-Does NOT require any additional software to be installed on a remote server to operate
I know I'll probably never find a single IDE that meets all of the above, but I'd like to find the closest IDE possible.

Is there any way to find out whether the "Visual Studio .NET Remote Debugging Components" are installed in my system or not.
why I am asking this questions is...
I am running dcomcnfg.exe through command prompt,but I am not getting expected "Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog box";Instead I am getting "Component Services" MMC application.
Could you please explore me how setup Remote Debugging.

Depending on the current windows OS being used on the machine, the path to configure DCOM is different. In this case, after you open the MMC, you can follow the path as below:
Console Root\Component Services\Computers\My Computer\DCOM config\Machine Debug Manager Now, you simply right click on it to open the Properties dialog box and go to the security tab.
Another way to check if the remote debugging components are installed on the machine is that you can take a look at the user groups available on the machine to see if the 'Debugger Users' group is in the list. If yes, the components are installed already. Remember to add the user to this group to do the remote debugging. For more information, you can see Remote Debugging Setup[^]

hi there , i have put the awb_del_role.jsp into a package in eclipse, and access it from the main project folder, by viewing in eclipse the links can work. But when i copy this project and paste it in tomcat webapps folder and run it , i cant access that page , they say that the page in unaccessable
i used

the above code is a from a awb_menu.jsp , on clicking will link to awb_del_role.jsp but that awb_del_role.jsp is being held inside a package(thats what it is called in eclipse, package name: org.poc.rwb.role)
so after saving the files , i used tomcat to run it but the link doesnt display out, in fact it says that the requested resouce is not available.
but as some of us know, my eclipse has a preview function , the link works in there but not when using tomcat to run it in IE ...
so whats seems to be the problem ??

we have pressing one button ultrawebgrid rows data to export excel sheet, In excel sheet each worksheet contain one grid row deatails,
for example grid have 10 rows ,pressing any button,
In excel sheet 10 worksheets will occure and each worksheet contain 1 row data of grid pls send me a solution for this example

I've been using an access database for my asp applications and have come across xml and wondered which would work best if i was getting loads of hits? a totally asp and xml website or an asp website with a access database. I no i should use SQL but anyways. I think i can get both websites to work and do exactly the same thing.

Do you intend to store your XML in a file on your own ? What a disaster. Access at least allows multiple users, a single file will not, obviously.
Yes, if you have more than 3 users, you should use MSDE or SQL Server. You can store XML in any database, if it meets your business needs. Storing it in a flat file ( if that's what you mean by XML OR Access ) is just a plain terrible idea.

So many characters could lead to an attack it mostly depends on the combination they are used. For example, do you deny the apostrophe? What happens if someone tries to enter the name "Miles O'Brian"?
Your best bet is to make sure you use parameterised queries to insert the information into the database. Remember to run on a least privilaged account (say giving the user only SELECT permission on the relevant tables and nothing more - remember you can also REVOKE permission at the column level in SQL Server).
Can you let us know the purpose of the textarea? What is the information going to be used for? That might also help defining the measures to put in place to reduce the "attack surface".

I have an asp application in which, a page generates reports depending upon the id passed to it. For eg. printpage.asp?id=52 . Now I have a Print button on this page on clicking of which the contents of the page should be read and passed to the activex dll which I have prepared for printing the page.( I had to do this because the printer is installed on the server where the application resides).
Now my question is how to read the contents in such a way that the fonts and formatting should remain the same, as that content will be printed on the server printer using Active X dll.

Hi,
When I use window.open() in a page from IE, IE will launch a new window but stay in the same process. But when I use the same page from an IE control in my own app, it launches a new process (a new ie instance is created).
For a certain reason, I cannot use showModal/ModelessDialog. My question is: is there a way to force IE to launch a new window without generating a new process.

I've encountered an interesting problem to which I can't seem to find a solution.
I've got an ASP.NET application, written in C#, that returns a variable called TimeToRefresh each time that the page loads. This variable is determined dynamically, represents the number of milliseconds before the page needs to automatically refresh, and could be any positive integer.
Since I need an automatic page refresh, that necessitates JavaScript (if there's another client-side method for automatic page refresh that could be adapted to this problem, please let me know). I need to implement, therefore, a JavaScript timer that counts down the number of milliseconds indicated in the TimeToRefresh variable. Here's the rub: I can't find a way to transfer the variable from ASP.NET to JavaScript. I need to either: a.) access an ASP control from JavaScript, or b.) populate an html control from ASP that can then be accessed by JavaScript. I can't seem to do either successfully.
Any ideas? Another method entirely, perhaps?
