But dont have a clear idea how to use ODBC in my code...I wud be thankful if someone can show me a way out... I want to use the image format (like jpg,gif,tif etc) which consume less space and image does not loose any visual effect. like when user selects the image to upload I want to convert it into the required image type before saving it. I have seen couple of applications which convert the image into Tif with very small size but when I do so the image size grows enormously. any suggestions would be appreciated.. Sorry, but these two requirements are mutually exclusive of each other. If you want to use less space, any decent compression is going to be a lossy one. Image information will be lost! If you want the best possible image quality, then your going to have to use a format closer to the native format of the device that captured the image. What format is best depends on what your doing and what "acceptable image quality" means to you. While reading your message I got the idea instead of using auto compression I shall ask user to do it him self . I shall provide one software compression utility in my application and he will compress it as much as he wants and can view it visually to make it best. Re: which image format is better Christian Graus10-Jun-05 13:44 Christian Graus 10-Jun-05 13:44  jpg is lossy gif is 256 colour bmp is huge I'm not sure if tif is lossy or not, but I'd suggest that if your tifs are too big, then tif probably ( like jpg ) allows you to set the compression rate, which means it's probably lossy. It doesn't matter - to do any work with images, they need to be in raw format in memory ( in fact, there's no other way to deal with them in any meaningful way ). So let GDI+ offer it's full range of image formats, and let your users make their own decisions about space/quality.
