I just-bought-a-month-ago computer, SONY model, crush without informing me a word before it drop death. many attempt had been made to restored it but fail! according to expert, the hard disk does not want to come to live again. I want to cry out loud because there are 80Gb of my documents in that crazy computer hard disk. I suppose to buy a 500Gb backup hard drive this sunday and transfer the data from the computer. anyway, i think it know my plan in advance and it just drop dead a day in advance. This SONY computer is real smart. it out smart me in all ways!!!! anyway, i hate computers in general particularly the sony one. you know there are lot of things that we should HATE computer. one of the thing that my mind could think of is "it act like our enemy". why? because when we are in a hurry and want to work fast, "this enemy" just crowl and start to count-the-grass walking. when we are not in a hurry, it work fast. you can try if you don't believe me (when in a hurry you open many programs or many file and want to print this and that, the computer just go down, find the garden and count the grass even though your house is sky high and no green thing around....). well, well, the more i talk about computer the more i hate it!!!!!
Any idea to rescue the file, please let me know...

There are companies that deal in data recovery. They aren't cheap, but if you really need those files badly, and as long as the magnetic media itself is intact, that may be your only option.

My first step would be to remove the drive and install it as a slave in a second computer. It may just be a controller failure in the Sony, and your files may be recoverable by simply copying them from the old drive to another one. Sometimes drives become unbootable because of disk damage, but can still be read in this configuration. If it works, you'll save the many thou$sand$ a disk recovery company will charge you. If it doesn't work, you're no worse off than now. Good luck!

Hi ,
I have a problem for which, I found no solution till now. Would be very happy if you could help me in this. This is in Windows OS.
I have a C# .NET windows application running. I go to TaskManager and kill the process. Now, I want my application to be aware of this killing.I tried all the WIN API's and events too but nothing is fired back to the application.
All these Closing and Handle destroying events are called only when I close the application.
Please help me in finding a solution for the same.
Thanks and Regards,

just curious, but why would you like to avoid one to kill the process ?
(is your code a virus like ? )

You can't. Killing a process means the OS unceremoniously rips it out of memory. If an app were hung, and the OS notified it that it was being killed, then what? The app is hung and can't respond.
An app could also do all sorts of Bad Things in response (like a virus could run another copy of itself).

the best technique (and only technique ) for this i have seen is to run two processes, process_a.exe and process_b.exe
In each create and open a handle of the other process, and wait for close notification of the other process, when you get that notify, just shell the process again.
please dont send me a virus

Most viruses these days seem to be using this technique...
(Re.."In each create and open a handle of the other process, and wait for close notification of the other process, when you get that notify, just shell the process again."
)
How can it be countered .. programmatically or otherwise? Any ideas?

Hi Manivannan:
Itz by design. When you select 'End Process', did you go through the warning:
"Terminating a process can cause undesirable results including loss of data and system instability. The process will not be given a chance to save its state or data before it is terminated. Are you sure you want to terminate the process?"

Hi All, I am using Windows 2003 server and would like to make sure Dr. Watson
produces the appropriate log when a program crashes. I believe I have all
the setup done correctly. I ran a program that will crash and Dr. Watson produces
a log file that contains only the following 2 lines :
Microsoft (R) DrWtsn32

Any suggestions on what needs to be done? Thanks.

I have a problem to connect to a remote SQL Server in WinXp SP2.
The error is "SQL Server does not exist or access denied".
I've done almost all of the solutions that are recommended in Microsoft support service.
I added sqlservr.exe program into the exception list of firewall included with XP SP2.
I added 1433 (TCP) and 1434 (UDP) ports into that exception list as well.
Even I disable XP SP2 firewall. but I got the problem again.
Finally I installed SQL Server Service Pack 3a but unfortunately the problem is still exist.
I really don't know what should I do after doing all of the above tasks.
Is there anybody here who can solve this problem?
Thank you in advance.

Hi, I have a problem with my computer boot device priority. I have set the boot device as the following order.
1. CDROM.
2. Floppy A:.
3. Hard disk.
4. From network.
But when I first start the computer, it usually boot from the network. Unless I restart the computer again then it start to boot from the hard disk drive. I'm sure that when I exit the CMOS I already save the change to the configuration. But when I turn off the computer the computer and start it again. I try to check the battery and i found it run goods (the clock run correctly). I don't know where is the problem come from, does anybody have any idea?

Dear
I also face this problem....The problem is actually in Jumper Setting...Check the Jumper setting near your CMOS.....change the setting of jumper and save the CMOS setting in SETUP.....
A jumper is usually set to not save the CMOS change so that a user may not change accidently.....

Thank you very much for your comment. I already check it and found the reason is not from the jumper. The reason is the battery of CMOS is low. Now I laready chang the battery of the CMOS of my laptop.

Hi guyz,
What has occurred in my system today is the nuisance that I whenever hit the Ctrl+Alt+Del from the keyboard to open up the "task manager" it reports a message box saying "Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator",whereas I being the administrator have had done nothing such(My OS is Windows XP).That's why I can't open up the task manager anymore. For your information I have checked for viruses with Norton Antivirus. It had reported some adware threats which it was unable to delete, might they had been running background, but I also did not find them as I was unable to open the task manager.Next, I took the repair wizard from the Windows XP installation CD ,but to no avail.
Now I have found an extra problem,my desktop is not working i.e.,I am unable to click the icons on the desktop.
Anyone knowing even little about the solutions please let me know . lt;/

first, keep you antivirus up to date.
second, cut off you interenet connection, and run a scan of you whole computer.
then, try to repair the infected files with norton AV, otherwise, click on the virus name (presented in the report) to go to the symantec webpage of that malicious threat, and find the section (on that page) called "removal information"... (it explains how to remove the viruses, tojans and so from your system).
follow the procedure for each threat on your PC.
you could also try to scan your computer with Ad-Aware for spy-wares...
if you think you cannot do this with your current session, reboot and launch a Safe-Seesion Windows (after booting, press F8)
for the task manager, try Ctrl+Shift+Esc... but i doubt it will work if you cannot access it via Ctrl+Alt+Del
cheers,

Try running it directly:
Start|Run|taskmgr.exe|Enter

Try to download windows defender[^], install it and update the virus definition for both anti-virus and windows defender. Disconnection your computer from the network and try to scan it.
Note: Try to identify the virus name of spyware name, then you would be able to delete it from your computer by search on the search engine to find the tool to kill it. After your computer is clean, try to update the security path from the Microsoft windows update website.
