I've developed on PCs for many years now (C++, C#), but nothing web based until now.
Well I've tinkered in JavaScript, Java Applets but nothing serious.
I need some assistance in selecting the best/right/most sensible/etc, solution to this
request:
I have a PC application that records data from a piece of equipment and saves it to
files on a local "intranet" server.
There is now a requirement to have an "internet" web page, displaying real-time data from
these files, including graphical representations (last 24-hours line graph, as
an example). The Web site is hosted externally, but the data will be in a DMZ on our
intranet.
What route should I take? I'm assuming a client/server solution is the way to go, but using what? The only thing I'm pretty certain of, is that a database solution is out.
I know It's a bit vague but if someone could get the ball rolling I'd be much obliged.

You should use ASP.NET to do this, you say you've done C#, so that will be the easiest approach overall. Apart from that, your files will need to be in a place that the ASP.NET process has rights to, which means the app will be hosted in the root directory of your file structure.

I have created a ActiveX component. I use IIS. It works well on my m/c, as the component is registerd on it, but doesn't work on other m/c's in the network. Who to register my ActiveX on other machins, when used with IE <object> tag.
And who to communicate with the server fron this ActiveX.
Plz help...
Thanx & Regards..
Vinod.

Vinod:
The most probable cause being, by virtue of the control being unsigned, the IE on other machines ignore your OCX file.
Your machine has it already registered by your development workstation. Have a dummy test signature and try it. Alternatively, if you have control over the target PCs, you can try having your webserver in thier 'Trusted Sites'.
I think you can manage these settings on all the PCs you control in your Intranet by IEAK (Internet Explorer Administration Kit)

Hey,
I need to know how to submit a form to an e-mail address. What I got right now just opens up Outlook Express. I don't want Outlook to open, I just want the info on the form to be sent to the E-mail address. This is the code I'm currently using. As for my books and anything I can find online, it's all basically the same as this.
<FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="mailto:someguy@overthere.com" ENCTYPE="text/plain">
<and the="" of="" course="" input="" code="" down="" here="">
I'd love to be using a script or .NET for this, but the server that the site is uploading onto only supports HTML and JavaScript. It's not meant for much besides posting family photos.
Cheers

Hey,
Thanks for the info. It seems that this is not gonna happen without the use of scripts (asp, cgi, php). I'm restricted to only HTML and JavaScript, so I just set the contact buttons to open up Outlook. It would be nice to submit the form, but this server only supports HTML and JavaScript. Maybe one day if my client ever updates their service then I can submit forms.
Thank you again. This site never lets me down.

The only way to do this is to track for yourself where all your buttons/links have navigated to, and check if the current URL is not what you expect it to be.

The backbutton check is one of the most infamous problems faced by developers worldwide.
Perhaps you can workaround this problem with PageExpiry etc or having a history.forward() as the first line of the pages to push the page always to the forwward.

Hi there,
Can you be more specific about what you want to do? You want to host a player in the web page to play the media file and use vbscript to control it? Where do you place the media files (server or client machine) ?

You need to host a player such as windows media player on the web page with the object tag, then specify the url of the media file in the filename (or URL depending on the version of the player) property of the player. You can use the client side script (either javascript or vbscript) to control the player.

Hi there,
AFAIK, you cannot embed a windows-based application in a web page. Instead, you can host a window form control with the object tag. So you need to port your code into a window control.

Hi,
Ya i had hosted the windows control in web by using <object tag="">.Actualy i am using EXE2HTML.EXE tool that will convert the exe to binary code and we can embedded it in Html or that tool itself create a HTA page.
