Anybody knows how to change font in edit control.
i tried to create a font in following way,
CFont l_font;
l_font.CreateFont(20, 10, 0, 0, FW_NORMAL,FALSE, FALSE, FALSE, 0, OUT_DEFAULT_PRECIS, CLIP_DEFAULT_PRECIS, DEFAULT_QUALITY, DEFAULT_PITCH | FF_ROMAN, "Times New Roman"); edit->SetFont(&l_font);
But no matter how i set the height "20" value, the characters in the edit control height do not change.
What i want is to make the characters big enough to fit the big edit control i created.
thanks in advance~

Make sure your font is allocated during the life of your control ie declare it as a class member and not as a local variable

I prefer MSDN online (at msdn.microsoft.com) to the help that comes with Visual Studio.

It comes on 3 CDs.

Which is the MSDN version of Windows XP, but it is not the MSDN Library itself.
You should know whether or not you purchased a MSDN subscription . If you did, install it. If not, you'll have to use the online version.

Hi,everyone. i'm still newbie here and still beginner using mfc. i have a problem. i create a list control without dialog editor but using CListCtrl (on the fly). The list style is report. The problem is i want to add item with icon but position
of the icon on the right (You know the standar de facto is in the left) and when i resize the view that hold CTabCtrl where the second tab (there is 2 tab, the first using CTreeCtrl) that contain the list control, the text is wrap,ex : (The home project are...$) become (The home project are the project...$) where $ sign the icon that i used. Can anyone help me ? I'm try using 2 column, first column to hold the text and the other to hold icon (temporary i using text for the second column) but this method is fail and the result become : (The home project are the project...$) become (The home project..) --> The icon is missing. I hope you understand what i mean, it's hard to explain with word ^_^ Thank you.

Hy all! I've developped an ActiveX control to send reports via e-mail and it finaly works, but there are still 3 issues:
1. the control is marked safe for scripting and this statement is recognized on a XP machine, but the same control is considered as Unsafe for scripting on a Win2000 computer and is blocked. Any ideea about what i should do to overcome this problem?
2. althow the control is safe for scripting, and officialy signed when it runs it triggers an alert like "this program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? If this is unexpected, it may be a virus and you should choose <<no>>" and just after that another alert "A program is trying to automatically send e-mail on your behalf. Do you want to allow this?..." . Since our employees have to send even hundreds of reports at once and to have access to change the recepients addresses I call the objects method inside a java script for every confirmed address and I get these alerts for each call..... Is there a way around these warnings?
3. after running ok for a while or when I close the IE window I get sometimes an error that says :
"Debug assertion failed!
Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
File: cmdtarg.cpp
Line: 52
For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts."
What is exactly an assertion an how can I debug it in a simple way since the msdn articles are very vague on this issue?

Does anyone know how to open an Excel file and read the values using VC++? I saw some stuff in MSDN using MFC, but I was hoping for something easier. Is there a free component out there somewhere?
Thanks,

yes it does, but be careful, it is windows specific !!
TOXCCT >>> GEII power [toxcct][VisualCalc]

A carriage return is \r . A line feed is \n . A CRLF pair is \r\n . This has nothing to do with CString .

Hi,
I have the following wrapper to FormatMessage that helps the caller not worry about freeing the memory required for the error description string. This works great for me, but I would like to know this can be extended to using in multiple threads too. Any comments and ideas? Thanks in advance.
<br />
_TCHAR *error_string (DWORD errCode)<br />
{<br />
static _TCHAR szMsgBuf[4096]; <br />
_TCHAR *pMsgBuf = (_TCHAR *)szMsgBuf;<br />
DWORD result;<br />
<br />
ZeroMemory(szMsgBuf, sizeof(szMsgBuf));<br />
<br />
result = FormatMessage( FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM | FORMAT_MESSAGE_IGNORE_INSERTS,<br />
NULL, <br />
errCode, <br />
MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT),
pMsgBuf, <br />
sizeof(szMsgBuf), <br />
NULL );<br />
<br />
if (result == NULL) return NULL;<br />
<br />
return pMsgBuf; <br />
}<br />

As built, you would need to use thread local storage. So in general, I would change your solution to return something such as a managed string if you can.
Tim Smith
I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

Can you briefly explain what is a managed string?

time now to learn it, I should learn it later. if you can guide me.
