But which solution do you use for get date directly from internet ?
I've always used a server (IIS[^]) that must have a DSN created pointing to the database. The connection string must specify the provider as "MS Remote":
set conn1 = new Connection
conn1.Open "Provider=MS Remote;" _
& "Remote Provider=MSDataShape;" _
& "Remote Server=http://www.domain_you_want.com;" _
& "Data Source=DNS_YOu_Specified;" _
& "User Id=User; Password=pwd;"

Hi,
my work hierarchy is as follows.
sqlStr = "select * from voucherTransaction where CompanyCode='" & compCode & _
"' and vtCode='" & mcmbVoucherType.SelectedItem.col1 & "' and
voucherNo=" & txtVoucherNo.Text
parameter.Value = sql // sqlCommand parameter object
davd.SelectCommand = cmd // cmd is sqlCommand and davd is sqlDataAdapter object
davd.Fill(dsvd, "voucherDetail") // dsvd is DataSet
davd.Dispose()
//after populating dataSet i need to delete a specific row . and the deletion
code is
dsvd.Tables("voucherDetail").Rows.RemoveAt(lastRow)//lastrow is secific row no
dsvd.Tables("voucherDetail").AcceptChanges()
//now i need to add new row as
dsvd.Tables("voucherDetail").Rows.Add(drow) // drow is DataRow
//now updating the DataSet as follows
sqlStr = "select * from voucherTransaction where CompanyCode='" & compCode & _
"' and vtCode='" & mcmbVoucherType.SelectedItem.col1 & "' and
voucherNo=" & txtVoucherNo.Text
parameter.Value = sqlStr
davd.SelectCommand = cmd
Dim cbvd As New SqlCommandBuilder(davd)
davd.Update(dsvd.Tables("voucherDetail"))
davd.Dispose()
Now the error is " can't insert the duplicate key value"
I have displayed the DataSet table (voucherDetail),there isn't any duplicate value but its showing error for that specific row because its not deleting from the database.
Please help me immediately if u have some suggestions

I'd like to know your opinions, experience and feelings about these DBs:
1. MSDE
2. PostgreSql
3. MySql
Thanks,

1. MSDE:
I did not use MSDE (but used MS SQL Server 2000)
It's free with many features (stored procedures/UDF/ocnstraints/triggers/some types of replication) you can consider it a limited SQL Server version regarding performance.
2. PostgreSql:
I did not use it either..But it's free,open source and reliable and semi full featured.
3. MySql:
I used it and I like it..It's free,open source,very fast,and widly used on the internet.But it's features are less complete compared to the previous DBMSs.
the decision of using one against the others depends on the project you make and your previous knowledge.

Hi all,
Facing small problem.
I have one field of type SmallDateTime in SQL Server table and contains both date and time as a data. I want to get all records of specific date irrespective of time and i given following query like
select firstname,paiddate from tbluser where paiddate = '24-mar-2005'
is not showing any record because time part is also there.
so what is the standard method to get all records of a particular date ignoring time part (not by using string functions like substring or left etc)
Thanks for reply.

Hi, this is how I do it:
SELECT * FROM FOO
WHERE BAR >= '2005-02-20' AND BAR < DATEADD(D, 1, '2005-02-20')
Hope this helps.

select firstname,paiddate from tbluser where datediff(day,paiddate,'24-mar-2005')=0

Dear Friends,
I have and XML File and am binding that xml file to a datagrid using dataview with a check box to select the row to update or delete.
In the event of check box I used to find row from dataview using sort property and find() method.
But I got the row number more than one than the actual one.
e.g. when I got rowno = 1 as a result of find method, in dataview that row is actually at postition 0. so every time next row of the actual row is deleted or modified.
So if anyone have the solution of this then plz send it to me quickly .
Thanking u in advance

Asp
connect to ado/ms access file string is like that
conn.Open "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=" & Server.MapPath("testing.mdb") & ";UID=Admin;PWD=password"
How to set the UID and PWD for the "testing.mdb"?
I have tried to set them up with MS Access but it's fail.
Thanks

How have you tried? Via "tools > security > set password"?

Yes, but it only set the database password but what is the login?

If you don't have any other user activated it'd be "admin"

I am trying to write a code for a web site using C# to pass parameters from from1.aspx to a class1.cls
and then pass it again to another cls then execute it in a third class to added to stored procedure in Sql server.
example: user insert first name in front end form1.aspx. then firstname=txtfirstname.Text in form1.cs then pass firstname parameter to another class called member.cls.
and then pass again to third class called EXECUTE.cs class. to insert the record to stored procedure in Sql Database.
my problem is between member.cls and execute.cls
Thanks.

I assume these are cs, not cls files ?
Their names don't really matter, but it all sounds very convoluted. What's the problem you're having ? You just want to pass parameters from class to class ? If you posted some code, perhaps we could get an idea of what's going on ? Is all this stuff irrelevant, and your problem is just how to call a stored proc from C# ? If so, I answered that question below earlier today.

Hello,
I'm planning to build a small commercial software for personal use, using C# Windows Forms. What are available database systems that will suit my need? I only know of MS Access but I'm not sure how good it'll work with ADO.NET.
What choices do I have? Please share your ideas.
Thanks a lot.

Access will work fine, if you can live within it's limitations. I prefer MSDE most of the time, but then, I have MSDE/SQL Server installed all the time anyhow.

The problem with MSDE is that, eventhough I can automatically have it installed on client's machine, still 50 MBs need to be downloaded to his machine.
Have you heard of Firebird? It's a free database system. http://firebird.sourceforge.net/

Wrong. I distribute an app with MSDE, the PCs are offline, and it all works.

I've used VistaDB[^]. It's like Access in that the database is contained in a single file. And the footprint is minimal, 2 DLLs and about 500 KB total.

I've recently used PostgreSql in a project and I'm very satisfied with the results. It's an open source db system. It isn't a file based db and the footprint is not low but it's very robust.

I have a table as such:
word
-----
word - varchar
word_count -int
The word is unique.
How do I do a random selection based on the influence (weight) of word_count?

One solution is to add another column to the table, which will store the sum of the word_count field up to and including the current record, then find the maximum value, generate a random number between 0 and the maximum, and select the first record greater than that number.
In MSSQL, it would look something like this:
-- Add the column to the table:
ALTER TABLE dbo.Word ADD WeightScaled int NULL
GO
-- Update the new column
DECLARE @Counter int SET @Counter = 0
UPDATE
dbo.Word
SET
@Counter = WeightScaled = @Counter + Word_Count
UPDATE
dbo.Word
SET
WeightScaled = Null
WHERE
Word_Count <= 0
GO
-- Select a random record
Declare @MaxValue int, @RandomNumber float
SELECT
@MaxValue = MAX(WeightScaled)
FROM
dbo.Word
SET @RandomNumber = rand() * @MaxValue
SELECT TOP 1
Word
FROM
dbo.Word
WHERE
WeightScaled >= @RandomNumber
ORDER BY
WeightScaled

And drop the column after I'm done with all the random selects?
(The data should be updatible, which means the word_count is subject to change)
