Hi iBeanz,
As far as I know,Pocket PC uses the widcomm stack and not Microsoft stack,so you can't using Winsock for bluetooth communication.
You have 2 options:
The first is to buy Widcomm SDK in order to use the stack.
The second is to use Bluetooth serial port(I think its COM7 or COM8 - but you can check it with your PocketPC bluetooth manager).
When you open the bluetooth serial port,the bluetooth manager will open a dialog to select the target device,and also will do the pairing.
after the pairing - you can use this serial port to send and receive data(using ReadFile and WriteFile functions).

Eli

People, I have met with a problem. I try to inherit forms. The Visual Studio raises an error saying that : The designer could not be shown for this file because none of the classes within it can be designed. The designer inspected the following classes in the file:
MenuBaseForm --- The base class 'SWT.SMTForm' could not be loaded. Ensure the assembly has been referenced or built if it is part of the project.
Did someone meet the same problem?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

The VS.NET Compact Framework forms designer does not support inherited forms. We handle this by creating a new project configuration 'Designer'. In this configuration we define the preprocessor symbol DESIGNER_SUPPORT . Then, at the top of the class, we put a #if block as follows:
#if DESIGNER_SUPPORT
public class MyInheritedForm : System.Windows.Forms.Form
#else
public class MyInheritedForm : BaseForm
#endif When you want to use the designer, you select the Designer configuration. Once you've finished designing, you set the active configuration back to Debug or Release as appropriate.

Hi all,
I'm a newbie on Windows CE plattforms. I'd like to enable and configure a RAS server on the Windows CE .NET 4.2 but I don't know how or even know if it's installed on the image that is running. How can I do that?
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
Can somebody explain me the various IPC mechanisms supported in Win CE? I have heard that it doesn't support anonymous as well as named pipes.
Also , what are the various pros and cons of using various IPC mechanisms?
Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Andy.

Hi,
I wrote a Windows CE.NET 4.2 program to get the firmware serial number from an IDE harddisk. The platform isn't pocket pc. It is a CE.NET embedded device using AMD Geode (x86-based) CPU with Single-board computer and an IDE harddisk.
The reason to get the serial number is to use it as a key for licensing a software. I used the DeviceIoControl Win32 API with the io control code of IOCTL_DISK_GET_STORAGEID (0x709). It worked. However, when I double check with the actual serial number printed on the hdd itself, I found that every 2 bytes of the number was flipped.
A simple solution could be to simply flip the bytes back but I wish to know the exact reason why the bytes were flipped. Is it because the API actually reads every 2 bytes of the serial number as WORD? This could be the case since probably the number is stored as a character string on the firmware.
e.g. "1234"
But if the API reads word by word, and the Geode is x86-based (little endian), the flipping will occur which will cause it to be "2143". In that case, I would need to check the processor's endianness before reading the serial number. What then is the way to get the CPU's endianness?
I would wish to develop a generic solution and not be tied down to a certain hardware platform. So I would like to ask if any of you had encountered such a similar case be it on an embedded CE.NET device or PPC 2003 device.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

All CE-supported processors are either little-endian, or support both endians and are run in little-endian mode.

I have a winCE4.2 windows application(app1) on a embedded system. I can start it through the active sync from desktop through eVC++ 4.0 IDE. I want to start it through a test application and log the results. I am a novice in windows world. I created a test through application wizard (a typical winCE application) but how do I start app1 through my test since it doesn't work from commandline ? I used laplink controller for recording a macro for running the application and navigating through them and playing it again but problem is it doesn't let me create an activity log for that. Hence the need for my test application.
Thanks for any help and pointers.

Which model? Looks like there will be upgrades available in September for some of them. Check out [^] for more info. Looks like the 718 and 720 models can be upgraded. It still may not help for an immediate solution however.

I have downloaded .NET Compact Framework 2 Redist (It is beta, right?). I have a PC with WinCE 4.2 and Compact Framework 1.0. Now my question is how can I install Compact FW2.0 to the CE-PC?

Right.

Odds are you will not be able to. As far as I know, the only Windows CE 4.2 platform that will support the CF 2.0 is the Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC (Pocket PC 2003). You will only get support of CF 2.0 in Windows Mobile 5.
