Hi all,
I've created server application with a listener socket (I'm using C#).
Everything is ok when the client sends data to the server,
but when the server tries to send data to the client I get the error:
"Cannor block a call on this socket, while an earlier async one is in progress"
The client\server have a listening thread.
How can I sends data to the clients?
Thanks

Try SoftArtisans FileUp... we use it on one of our sites and although it can be tricky to set up it works very well. We run a music site on which artists upload their own tracks and then organise them to sell on our retail web site - we limit each upload to 12MB which can be done in the web.config in ASP.Net - not sure how you'd do in classic ASP but I know Fileup does support that version as I used it on an old ASP site a few years ago.

"An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator".
Does anyone know the cause of this error?
This error occurs everytime I add or edit a record with attachment. No error encountered in my localhost. Error occurs in staging server.
Thanks!

I have just installed IIS on my old PC (running Windows 2000). This is to
test my Web Site before getting onto the real server.
I am using asp to handle the Contact page where users can e-mail me.
I have been using JMail in a Send_email.asp, but get the error:-
Error Type:
Server object, ASP 0177 (0x800401F3)
Invalid ProgID. For additional information specific to this message please
visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at:
http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.
/My_Site/send_email.asp, line 108
Now line 108 is shown below:-
Set objJMail = Server.CreateObject("JMail.SMTPMail")
Have I configured the IIS program corectly.
Note this PC is on my home network (shares internet via a gateway PC) and
the only e-mail I have on it is my hotmail.
i.e. what do I put in these fields:-
strMyEmailAddress = "myhotmail@hotmail.com"
strSMTPServerAddress = "smtp.hotmail.com"
Are the above correct?
I did run this VB program to test JMail and it ran OK.
On Error Resume Next
Set ob = CreateObject("JMail.SMTPMail")
If Not ob Is Nothing Then
MsgBox "object created OK"
Set ob = Nothing
Else
MsgBox "failed to create object"
End IF
Are they some settings in Personel Web Manager or somewhere else I need to
set?

The usual reason for this error message is that the component is not installed. Have you installed the mail component?
In your test program, how did you declare the ob variable? If you didn't declare it, it will be of the type variant. That would mean that in case of failure to create the object, the value in the variable would not be Nothing, but Empty.

Thanks Guffa, yes the JMail was not installed on the computer.
I thought that installing IIS was all you needed to do. I havr downloaded and installed/registered JMail.dll.
The script now runs a bit further.
It hits a problem with objMail.Execute statement.
Do I need to make some settings in the IIS or Personel Web Manager.
For this testing I am using my hotmail, as thats all I have on this test computer.
I use smtp.hotmail.co.uk
and myhotmail@hotmail.co.uk
Is this correct?
Many thanks,
Graham.

Most certainly hotmail won't let you use their smtp server to send mails, if they even have a mail server at that address.
If the server has an smtp server installed, you most likely don't need to specify the smtp address at all, or specify localhost as smtp server.

I would like to write a program that will go to a site, search the site for data, return the data, and allow me to pars out the data, then update my data base with the pars data.
I have experience programming in VB, C++ and some mainframe languages.
Can someone give me a start as to where I might get information on how to do this type of program. Book? Website?
Thanks

<Mitglied>
<Name>NameDummy2</Name>
<Rang>2</Rang>
</Mitglied>

Problem

Is it possible to make this task by java script?
Or better wherer would i host the xml file and a fitting *.aspx

Use xslt to tranform the xml into an html table, or how ever you want to display it. Using ASP.NET you can use a XML control and assign the source and transform files. Or you can just define the transform in the xml file and let the browser display it.

response.write(Searchvar)
SQL = "SELECT * FROM MYDB WHERE DESCRIPTION LIKE '*"Searchvar"*'"
The response.write(Searchvar) returns the correct text i.e. ARTICLE
BUT my SQL statement returns the FULL DB every time? Where is my SELECT statement going wrong?
Just wnat to limit the result to all records with the string ARTICLE in the DESCRIPTION TABLE. i.e. IF the field is "THIS ARTICLE IS BLUE" it should display that record
this is me

Are you really sure that this code is runnable at all? You really should get a syntax error trying to run it.
You have forgotten the & operator for concatenating the strings:
SQL = "SELECT * FROM MYDB WHERE DESCRIPTION LIKE '*" & Searchvar & "*'"

Hi,
I want to retrieve and process messages from a BLAB 2.4 chat box/system. I can program the processing part myself. Can someone help me to find (C++ or Java) code to retrieve messages that appear in a BLAB chatbox ? I suppose someone has done this part before, but I can't find it on the Internet.
Thanks and regards,

I am in the process of building my 1st web site.
I have included a 'Contact Us' page for feedback using Mailto:
This works fine when testing on my hard drive. But I need to tune my Internet Explorer settings to stop some of the warning windows popping up.
My questions are as follows:-
1. Is the Mailto: facility safe to use; i.e. when my site is placed on a server will anyone be able to save it to their hard drive and get my e-mail?
2. What is the best way to place on my page a way of contacting us should there be a setting to ban/disable the Mailto: option.
3. I plan to pay for hosting my site, now are the e-mails specifed on the web pages translated or mapped to prevent spamming etc.
Any good guides in this area?

If you mean by safe that the email address is protected in any way, then no. The email address is completely visible in the html code, and very easy for anyone to harvest, either manually or using a program that automatically scans pages for email addresses.
The mailto option is just an instruction for the browser to use the clients mail program to send the form. This of course requires that the client has a mail program installed, and properly configured as default mail handler. Most people does, as this is available as a standard feature in Windows (Outlook Express). If the computer is in public use, e.g. in a library or similar, there is most likely no mail program installed.
The best way of safely putting a contact form on a page is to use server code (ASP/PHP/JSP/ASP.NET) to put the form data in a mail and send it. Every web hotel has some kind of mail component installed that you can use for sending the mail.

My answers to your numbered questions are (in that order itself):
(1) Definitely not. Spammers can harvest email addresses in mailto: pattern. Atleast have a garbled email address and a simple JavaScript to trigger the link invocation.
(2) A serverside recieving form with a good CAPTCHA to prevent automated submissions.
(3) It depends on how best you configure your Contact page.
