MSDN[^] has plenty of example code.

How about i use While loop and at the same time inside the While loop contain a if-else loop?
Well, they would still be on the same thread, but if you put the write and read code in the same loop, that would make them both happen together, but I don't see how it would get faster as a result.

thanks for your advice..i think using thread is better...may you help me to edit my source code using thread?i am just a very new beginner in c#..I need your help a lot.Thank so much!

Using threads is cleaner, but the code is a lot harder to debug, and I doubt it will be any faster, it will just be interspersed, which seems to be what you're hoping for. If you read the MSDN articles, they should give you a good start. Whatever you try, just post your code here if you get stuck ( i.e. as a new question ) and I'd be happy to help.

im doing an app using visual studio .net 2003...
i want to create a database that supports a lot of data...
is mySql the best choice for me?
if so, how do i go about creating the database and adding sample data to the database? after that is done i also want to retrieve data from database to my form as well as to update data from my form to database...
is there anything i need to download and what do i've to download to begin?
are there any templates or completed projects with codes available on the net as a reference for a newbie like me?
thanks!

No, mySQL is kind of crap. If you want a free database, try MSDE, or SQL Server Express[^].

Buy a book on SQL, or download the documentation and samples and look through them.

Again, look through the samples first, read the books online ( assuming they come with Express Ed. ), etc.

Are you sure they exist ? Oracle is crap, mostly because it's developer tools are crap. Run for your life. Why are you looking to avoid SQL Server ?

I've downloaded microsoft sql 2005 server express. I've also spent the past few hours looking for step-to-step guide to start using and creating a database. However, up till now I still have no idea how to start using this sql server express.
Im wondering, is visual studio .net 2003 compatible with microsoft sql 2005 server express? This is because I only see Deep Integration with Visual Studio 2005 titles/headings associated with microsoft sql 2005 server express.
I would like to know what are the different database systems available that can be used with visual studio . net 2003 (yes, not 2005)..
Thanks!

Thanx for the tips!

HttpServerUtility.ScriptTimeout Property
Gets and sets the request time-out in seconds.

Oh yeah the ScriptTimeout! Thanx Chris!
Im starting to get the hang of this programming business

Oh hey I've got another question...
Does the ScriptTimeout works like the Page.Response.Expire? I just found the function while exploring Page members. I mean aside from property sets which is in minutes.
Thanx!

No, the Expires property will just be added to the http header. It's information for the browser on how long it may keep the page in the cache.

Like a timer on how much time the user has left before the page expires huh? Thanx guffa!

Hello gurus,
I would like to know if it is possible to create a listview control without name in order to have only the pictures in the list? If so how to do that? Or must I do my own control for that?
Note: the pictures are small bitmaps loaded from files. The size of the bitmaps are either 8x8, 16x16 or 32x32.
Thank you.
Best regards.
Fred.

what do u mean by without name, do u mean that there should be no column header or what ? If you want to have no column header then there is no problem but I guess it is something different....

|
|

I mean no string under the picture. I just want a list of pictures...

Set the Text property of the ListViewItem to " " (a space) or even "" (an empty string).
And set the ImageIndex to picture you want to display.

I need some input on how to go about implementing C# code to allow me to do the following:
Say I have an application that needs to be able to read an XML file. Inside this xml would be the name of a college/university and the sports programs they offer. Obviously, some of the schools would offer a large variety of sports programs, others a minimal amount, and some no sports programs at all. So it would be something similar to
<Application>
<school "university of a">
<sports>volleyball</sports>
<sports<football</sports>
<sports>basketball</sports>
<school>
<school="university of b">
<sports>volleyball</sports>
<sports>football</sports>
<sports>basketball</sports>
<sports>baseball</sports>
</school>
<school="university of c">
</school>
<school "university of d">
<sports>volleyball</sports>
</school>
and so forth. The reason for the xml file is so that if a sports program is added/deleted, then I would have to redistribute the xml file only and not a new application. I am thinking I need to use a table but I cannot picture the C# code. I don't know how many schools or sports programs so it would have to be dynamic, like an ArrayList.
Can anyone offer any suggestions/input?

You have the data structure already. When you load the file into an XmlDocument object, you will have the schools as child nodes of the root node, and the sport programs as child nodes of each school.

Shoot - I retyped my posting and I left part of it out. I apologize for my error.
I am actually wanting to display this in a combo box, where the user can select the school in one combo box and then it will give a list of the sports programs in another combo box.
One of the most important pieces of information and I definitely had a brain-fart on that one. I am really sorry about this!
